A and G Gates at the International Terminal
 
My flight will be leaving from the G Gates area in the International Terminal and my friend will leave from the A Gates. Are those boarding Gates connected? Do we have to go through separate security screening areas and can only meet before passing them?

No and Yes. There is a food court of sorts in the common area and a museum/library. Enjoy your time in the common area.
