In the Los Angeles Times:
Gov. Gavin Newsom orders all Californians to stay at home *** The mandatory order allows Californians to continue to visit gas stations, pharmacies, grocery stores, farmers markets, food banks, convenience stores, take-out and delivery restaurants, banks and laundromats. People can leave their homes to care for a relative or a friend or seek health care services. It exempts workers in 16 federal critical infrastructure sectors, including food and agriculture, healthcare, transportation, energy, financial services, emergency response and others. *** |
Good job. While I"m not always his biggest fan, it is nice to hear reasoned, rational leadership. It is also preventing a hodgepodge of county orders.
We'll see if CA gets through the worst of this sooner rather than later. One can hope, |
As of yesterday, elective surgery is allowed to resume. Elective surgery is surgery which doesn't need to be immediately scheduled, but is often mandatory. It can include critical cancer, heart, and stroke treatments as well as (at the least critical end) cosmetic surgery.
Updated on 4/30/2020 to note that just as some counties are re-opening parks and hiking trails, the governor is closing all state parks and beaches effective Friday, May 1, because of what he felt was overcrowding last weekend. |

UPDATE (May 1, 2020): This park is temporarily closed to vehicular access, meaning there are no parking facilities and parking on roadways is prohibited to protect public health from the COVID-19 pandemic. Although this park is open to local residents, they must abide by the following guidelines:
Statewide, many parks and beaches are temporarily closed or have very limited access to ensure Californians are abiding and practicing physical distancing. The goals are to make sure people are safe and to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 as much as possible. Bottom line is if you're thinking of visiting a park or beach, go to its website to see if it's completely closed (as in stay away), or just closed to vehicles. Also, closing parking lots can, as a practical matter, mean stay away because there is nowhere to park close to where you want to go. That's the situation now in Mt. Tamalpias State Park. I rode my bike to the summit a couple of weeks ago, and I didn't see anywhere to park for hikers. |

California health officials lift stay-at-home order for all regions
California health officials have lifted the regional stay-at-home order for all areas statewide on Monday morning, including the San Joaquin Valley, Southern California and the Bay Area, where ICU capacities still remain under 15%. In a press release, health officials said the four-week projection for ICU capacity in the three regions were expected to reach above 15%. |
thank goodness. from what i've observed it was largely being ignored anyways. the main impact was to wipe out employment at hotels, restaurants, gyms and barber shops. i will be looking forward to working out indoors (especially with the rain coming) and outdoor dining at lunchtime.
hopefully public officials will now devote 100% of resources to getting shots in people's arms and teachers back in schools |

Is it currently allowed, coming from Las Vegas, to visit the Yosemite park (in case we have a reservation)? Travel Advisory says no traveling within California for non-essential work..? |

Yosemite was closed last week due to extensive storm damage. It is reopening this week for those with reservations only.

I don't think Yosemite was ever closed even with the stay-at-home order. My niece went there in late December last year. The hotels inside the valley were closed but they stayed at an Airbnb just outside.
