Fastest route SJC>Moss Landing..

..next Saturday. Leaving SJC @ 10:30 AM. Looks like it's either CA-17 & CA-1 or Hwy 101/156. Would like to get to Phil's Rest. by Noon.

I would check a traffic app / estimated driving time when you get in your car. w/o traffic they would be about the same, so I'd pick 17 because it is more scenic, but if the weather is particularly nice, the drive over the hill for beach-goers might be horrible by that hour.

Good advice. Hadn't factored in the beach crowd. Thx

CA 17 still scares the heck out of me. There is never a time when I wouldn't do 101 to 156. Yes, it's 2 lanes for a few miles but pretty much moves right along. 90 minutes iw a bit tight but not much longer than that at worst.

Why is CA 17 scary? Is it windy (switch backs)? Busier? Is the speed limit the same on both routes?

Yes, very windy and fast. I'm not sure what the speed limits are, but people go pretty fast on it, given the many curves. I'm okay with it, but I can understand RichardInSF's concerns.

I think we'll take 101/156. Thanks for the advice. ^

It is going to be a very warm beach weekend. Enjoy, and expect traffic!
