Yosemite - Summer, 2016

FYI only.

A fire is burning near Coarsegold and Oakhurst on Highway 41, a major route into Yosemite National Park from the south and southwest. The fire is fairly small right now but has caused several homes to be evacuated and some smaller roads to be closed.

To be clear, this fire does not affect Yosemite NP at all and as of right now, Highway 41 remains open to traffic. The purpose of this post is to strongly suggest visitors planning to enter the Park in the near future via SR 41 check the Caltrans road conditions web site to verify the route is open when you begin travel. There is a good chance that the fire will be contained and the highway will stay open. If it should have to be closed, I recommend a diversion over to SR 120, which connects Merced with the national park.
