San Diego - Mission Beach hints and suggestions?
 

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. I really do appreciate it.

I did have one other thing I wanted to ask about. While we are in San Diego, we are interested in visiting the Mission Beach area... just checking out a couple of the restaurants/bars and walking around maybe. We will have a rental car... Can anyone recommend a good place to park there? From what I've read, parking seems to be an issue, but this will be at the end of September, so not on a holiday-weekend if that makes a difference. FYI - we will be staying in the Mission Valley area close to Qualcomm Stadium, so if there is an easier form of transportation, please let me know.

There should be parking on the street in Mission Beach unless you are there on a warm weekend afternoon. Even then, if you drive around a bit you should find a spot.

Pacific Beach is another interesting place to walk around.

This time of year (summer) is the worst for finding parking around Mission Beach. You'll have better luck in the mornings, but it'll be seemingly impossible during the afternoons. Just drive around, and accept the fact that you'll have to walk a bit due to parking so far away. Luckily, the area is nice so walking isn't such a bad thing.

You could also ditch the car and rent bikes instead.
