Gas cans?
I know weird question. I have a gas card that works in a few countries in Europe (read sponsored gas) but I will be traveling in some other countries as well. The gas card will work near the beging of my trip and not at the end. I could get gas cans of sorts but saving from the gas card would not make sense if I had to spend a bunch of money on cans. I would need the space at the end of the trip.
So anyone know of a way to safely and ecomically store gas? |

petrol for running cars
Trying to find a way to safely take a bunch of Petrol puchased in one European country to get me through a few others. At €1.5 per liter it just seemed worth asking the question. I was wondering if there were any inexpensive containers that I could fill up a trunk with and as I use the gas recycle them. Alternatively would be any containers that would collapse / shrink once the gas was used. Of course only if this was safe.

sounds like no easy solutions
I knew it was a weird question, but have found many useful answers here on FT. Has anyone done this before?

It is not really recommended to drive with full or partually full gasoline cans in your car. I try to avoid it.

MisterNice No matter how neat you are with it, you'll smell the gas in the car the whole way home. I don't recommend doing it for long distances... |

I've done it because of a local deal where you can get up to 30 gallons for a reduced rate (after saving up points), but it has to be all at once.

I would not carry extra ,
but do check if there is much differance in fuel in the next country you are headed to.... diesel in the UK is much more expensive than in France Petrol is cheaper in Germany than Holland or Belgium. and in Czech and Poland even less than Germany, also lower your speeds , I was probably the slowest Mercedes on the autobahn at 100-110 km but it used a lot less fuel.... If you do try this cockamamie scheme (which I certainly don't recommend), then for the love of God, only transport FULL gas containers in the back seat or trunk.
The most explosive and therefore most hazardous part of transporting gasoline is the vapor. Don't create a lot of vapor in the containers - fill them up full. You know what? Don't even do that. Pay a few extra euros for gas the right way and try to find your savings somewhere else. Sheesh. /rant |
You know, maybe you shouldn't be travelling that far in a car if you are worried about the price of gas (aka Petrol).
Try public transportation and you won't have to worry about it. They can pay for the gas and you never have to see it. You can even think of them as your private driver. By the way, keeping a can of gas in your back seat is a very bad idea. Trunk (boot) or bed (if you have a truck) only unless you have some sort of external gas tank that attaches to the back of your car. Have a nice vacation. |
