Charter Flight Experiences?
We are considering booking an OAK-Maui trip on a charter flight...my husband has it in his head that charter flights are a nightmare (unexplained lengthy delays, overbooking, etc.). What has been your general experience with charter flight service? Thanks

In my opinion...
PROs:
- In flight staff seem to be "friendlier" than on mainline carriers
- Charters sometimes service airports that aren't serviced by "scheduled" carriers (example - VRA)
- Price is frequently cheaper
- Some carriers have a "business class" that is much cheaper to upgrade into than on a mainline carrier (i.e. http://www.airtransat.ca/en/4_3.asp)
CONs:
- Unless you've bought the business class upgrade, seat pitch is frequently bad
- Charter fleets are often small. If your aircraft breaks down you may be waiting a long time for a replacement to arrive.
- Often your fellow passengers may be drunk "partiers"
- Planes are often completely full
- May be more restrictive rules about luggage size / weight etc.
