For Asia, there's this new site that i stumbled upon

http://fleapy.com - Shows you all of AirAsia promo fares in a year
http://new.fleapy.com - Shows all of Tiger, Nok Air, and Firefly fares in a year.
They plan to bring AirAsia and Jetstar in someday.

Really good if you are traveling around Asia and have flexible dates.

I should have put this in my previous post but there are some great wiki's keeping up to date lists of budget airlines. I prefer WikiTravel to Wikipedia for travel related info. The wiki's are kept current by smart folks like you and I that go in and edit incorrect info. Be sure to contribute if you notice anything wrong or add anything missing!

Global List of Discount Airlines
WikiTravel: http://wikitravel.org/en/Discount_airlines
Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_low-cost_airlines

Asian list of Discount Airlines

European list of Discount Airlines

map of airports

This site can be also a very helpful supplementary tool planning budget flights, as you can quickly find alternative nearby airports to a destination:

Pretty much useless for USA, as it does not show many airports. In fact, probably shows one quarter of the airports in Texas, and ignores the airports to which America's largest domestic carrier flies to: Southwest.

There is no Dallas Love Field or Houston's Hobby

PIA (Pakistan, have several international routes from US/Canada to UK/Europe to East Asia etc - you connect through Pakistan which is as centrally located as Dubai). piac.co.pk

AirBlue airblue.com (Pakistan - have connections to various locations in UAE).

Expect service and safety records similar to any other comparable developing country.

Could one of the top two posts either be regularly updated, or (and perhaps better) have a link to a wiki page with such links? I don't yet see a Budget section on the wiki. Let's fix that!

P.S. The link in the second post for the consolidator Openjet is dead.

There's some new development on FT last year w/r/t budget carriers & where to discuss them. You should check out this TalkBoard thread first:

Voting Over, Motion Passed: Create Four Budget Airline Forums

Then visit these four new created budget airline fora:

Budget Asian, Australian, and South Pacific Airlines

Budget European Airlines

Budget Middle East and African Airlines

Budget North and South American Airlines
