We need to rent a car for 3-4 days for a wedding near CLT in April. My wife would really like to rent a Mustang (non-convertible preferred) just once. From doing some research, it looks like Budget may be the only place where I can try to guarantee a Mustang specifically. Of course, the price is an issue, so I'm searching for a deal if I can find one.
One thing I noticed today is that the details" of the Mustang selection say this at Budget.com:
"Street Fleet vehicles are our reservable collection of makes and models. Just book a Street Fleet vehicle, and if that make and model is available when you arrive to pick up your rental, what you requested is what you'll get!"
That sounds pretty odd to me. It SOUNDS like I could reserve a Mustang, pay for it, get there, and find out that that make and model is not available. It seems really weird to me to say "book this car and if we have one when you get there, you can actually have what you requested!"
Is this just poor wording on their part? Or is there a significant chance that even though I reserved a Mustang, that it won't be there?
Also, any advice on trying to get a deal on a Mustang would be appreciated. Right now, search for April 10th at 6pm to April 14th at 4pm comes up with a price of $316 pre-pay plus taxes (making the total $431). I can get a full-size pretty much anywhere for under half that -- so it doesn't look like I'll be doing a Mustang at this point.
Thanks!

A few comments:
-Avis also has Mustang coupes listed as available for your time frame
-It's worth trying to return by Monday before Noon. Weekend rates typically end then, so you might get a cheaper rate (sometimes even better to do rental A returning at 11:55am Monday & rental B from noon-[whenever you're really done with it Monday]). Requires an extra trip to the airport, unless you can return rental A to a local shop & pickup B there.
-I don't think any agency will 100% guarantee that your car will be what you reserve. If they have 1 of them & the person before you totals the car or doesn't return it on time, they no longer can physically produce the car for you... no matter what your reservation says. Or they could simply over-book the cars (hoping for no-shows) but then need them all.
-If it were me, I'd reserve the full size. You can always ask for the Mustang when you're there. Or maybe they'll hit you for a small upgrade fee if you're lucky.
