Picking up at non-airport locations
 

I'm picking up a car in Center City Philly and dropping it at the airport 2 days later. Usually when you pick up at neighborhood locations, the tank isn't full...and they usually say "bring it back at that level".

Two issues I've had...how to judge how much to put in (without going too far over or under {how far did I drive, how many miles per gallon does this car get, etc. - is that the only way? - I usually err on the side of "over"), and second, having the airport understand this...I usually have to go to the counter to explain why it was not returned "Full".

Any advice?

You don't have to explain at the airport when you return the car. In the rental agreement should be clearly state on the Fuel reading when you pick up the car.

If there dare charge you on the fuel on return. Simply show them a rental agreement.
