When BA97.com is back online check to see if anyone is around at the same time as you and send them a polite PM to see if anyone can extend an invite to you as Hubbabridge suggested.

to leave the airside lounge, you need to have correct entry requirements to enter UK and at need to leave airside least 3 hours before your flight departs and be back through security 40mins before departure / conformance

airport security will escort you out part of the way.it is not possible for you to leave airside unescorted.

I have a canadian passport... so visa is not an issue...

*IF* I decide to leave the airport... Do I proceed to Immigrations instead of Transfers ?

How long does it take to venture to Piccadilly Circus and back to the airport?

I also have a Canadian Plat Amex, is this of any use in LHR for Lounges? I didn't see a Plaza Premium in LHR...

Not in T5 I'm afraid - only BA lounges in there, which don't provide access via Amex/Priority Pass etc.

.
That would be a compressed and relatively rewardless journey if you only have 5 hours.

If you decide to leave, then you need to follow the yellow exit signs and not the purple flight connection signs. You go through immigration which can take some time as you are a non-EU passport holder. (Never done it myself but I would guess half an hour? Depends critically on whether you arrive in the morning rush along with the long-haul transatlantics.)

Once through immigration, allow an hour to get to Piccadilly Circus (including buying a ticket and going down to the Underground platform). Another hour to get back (remember to get a T1235 train and not a T4 or an Uxbridge train.) Once you're back at T5, you need to go back through security, and if you aren't at the beginning of the security checkpoint by 35 mins before your flight you won't be allowed in, so if I were you I'd turn up at LHR one hour before your flight is due. I'd also allow an extra half hour for Underground delays, i.e. leave Piccadilly Circus 2.5 hours before your flight is due.

All that means you'd probably only have an hour at Piccadilly Circus. Depends what you want to do, of course, but other destinations in London might be more interesting (e.g. South Kensington).

The OP lists Asiamiles amongst his programs.

If he's Gold or higher there, he'd have lounge access as a Oneworld Sapphire.

johnny5a - if you had any decency about you you'd PM schnitzer and share some of your 'blagging lounge access' tips, gathered from years of experience, with him.

I'm quiet on this one, i've lit a firecracker last week, not due to let one off until Christmas.

I've seem to become the FT BAEC forum's lounge blagger, not sure how....... is there a Mucci award for this one

Are there any showers available to those without lounge access? I've never seen any signs for any (although TBH I haven't ever looked very hard).
