I'm flying First to HKG in 4 days...

...and in Manage My Booking I'm the only one in the cabin.

What's the likelihood this will change?

As it's so close to Xmas, on such a popular route, it does prompt me to wonder why?

Are the F loads dwindling across the board?

Why has BA27 disappeared after 19/12?

In answer to the OP's question, it's probably because most people have left already. I usually fly back in the second week of December but alas, work has kept me here until this Saturday.

YEEEES. BA and all other airliens are noticing sharp drop in the number of passengers in FIRST due to the stupid and extra high fares they are charging in this part of the plane, however, they do not want to admit that for some reasons.

Be sure that on most flights the passnegers in FIRST are also either upgraded or have free tickets.

It is time for airlines to budge and understand that the whole world in financial turmoil and they must lower their fares to attarct passnegrs back in FIRST and Business specially oil prices went down 70% and they are just lowering fuel charges and base fares by pennies and they make big fuss about it.

My partner flew IB LHR-MAD-GRU in business of Dec 4. The back of the plane was packed (economy was not available when we booked) but only 7 of the 36 (?) business seats were occupied on the A340. I'm doing the same trip this weekend so it will be interesting to see what the premium loading is then.

When I flew the LHR-HKG-LHR route in October the F cabin showed only 3 other seats taken on OLCI at T-20, but once on board I was surprised that the cabin was full. On the return there were only 5 of us in F but the rest of the plane was apparently completely full.

Loads in premium cabins are generally down, but I have found that seats can still fill at the last minute, although perhaps not so close to Christmas.

I wonder if it'll be full for me when I fly out on the 29th (Dec), and back on the 19th (Jan)? I really hope I could bag another 1st row seat for my GF (she's not Gold).

Oh well, time will tell when the online check-in commences.

I also thought most F passengers booked last minute as well with no great cost savings in the final weeks of travel vs last minute.

Why book your £10K return flight two weeks out when you can buy it the day before?

Jan 19th you could be in luck. That's right around Chinese NY and the HKG routes tend to be light. At least it was for me when I flew from Manila to HKG during Chinese New Year on Cathay. Got op-upped to FC and had the whole cabin to myself.

I would say you may be lucky, but don't get your hopes up (then if it is empty you'll love it). When myself and Mrs Toothy flew to LAX, the cabin was pretty much empty apart from us, even during online check in (1 A/K thankyou very much). However come the day, it was full. I don't know how many were upgrades / vs actual tickets though.

Happens a lot on flights in First sometimes people change from flight before flight after etc, i would be shocked if a route like LAX, HKG was ever empty in First i have been LAX many times in First and its normally at least 80% full . always nice to get an upgrade esp for xmas!

I had cabin to myself on flight back from BKK before and it was like day after tomorrow scary

What a load of crap, the airlines have dropped fares by a huge %. East coast club can be had for £1500 vs £3000 etc have you not noticed.

Also many routes at peek times are still full of paying pax in J F not all flights are upgrades are free.

Not jumping in here as a BA-defender, but I think the recent 50% off BA miles offer was a mark of just how panicked BA were about keeping up appearances in premium cabins... ergo better to have them looking busy; meanwhile still bad news on (cash) paid fares.

For the purposes of comparison:

LHR-JFK
BA from GBP 4,342 to 8,598
LH to 6,709 to 8,598
LX 4,342 to 6,840

Clearly BA and LH see their top buck fares on a par, which is slightly curious given that out of the three I find LX's in-the-air product a cut above either (discounting soft product benefits such as LHR T5 and the LH F Terminal in FRA). Yet less-flexible end of the scale LX and BA are head-to-head. I wouldn't find it difficult to choose between them, were I to want to burn this kind of cash on flying up front.

The truth be told, other than a select few routes and a plenitude of stupid people who'd come into money quickly, and chose to lose it just as quickly, nobody does.

The corporate deals - especially now - are designed to keep up the perception of prestige. You can bet that people sitting in the pointy end (or in LHs case in the hump) are either there because they've redeemed miles, or been bumped (whether it's through a preferred corporate deal or simple capacity issues; though I suspect the latter will be much less of a factor during the next 12 months).

For anyone who has paid this kind of money to sit in a F cabin - especially a BA one, my sympathies.
