$970 in "fees" for a economy award

Just was looking into a award from SEA to CPT.

For an economy ticket, miles required 90,000 and $970 in fees!!!

Jeeesh, I can buy a ticket for $1,500 with better connections (not on BA).

At least for now I can use my miles on partner AA for domestic flights.

Rule 1 - don't use BA Miles for Economy tickets

(For travel in November, BA is currently selling NYC tickets for £297. Or, of course, you could use 50,000 miles and pay £250 in taxes! 50,000 miles to save £47 is possibly some sort of record.)

BA miles are normally best used for upgrades. The only time I would buy an economy ticket with them is if I needed the ability to cancel the ticket.

True. At first, miles plus cash to sit in Y within Europe seems like madness to the FTer. But 240 for no changes or refunds to BEG, say, and double that for Flex then suddenly 100 plus 10k miles and ability to change or cancel (for a fee) seems a fair deal in these straitened times.
