Summer schedule 09 - LHR BAH DOH now a 747

A rather dull topic I am afraid, but worth a mention I think.

I am very happy to see that BA 124 and 125 will be operated by 747 instead of 777 equipment next summer as this is my regular route. Winter schedule has previously been 747.

I can see why - F and J are often chock a block out of BAH/DOH and the yields are pretty good - better than AUH/MCT, DXB and KWI as far as I can see and there are usually a fair few Americans on board so I suspect that this route is sourcing healthy feeder traffic on the TATLs. Availability in R & I class (for point of sale BAH/DOH) has also been pretty poor.

So a big to BA. Hopefully now we will see better R & I class availability with 70 vs 48 seats.

Eh? It was a 747 last summer. They do sub 777s quite regularly however.

Yes but when I was travelling last summer there was only occasionally a 747 scheduled. Otherwise it was 777s suggesting to me that the 747 was substituted for the 777 rather than the other way around.

BA.com has shown 747s on 100% of a random sample of dates in April, May, June and July 2009.

Summer season is always a 777 on this route. In winter (Oct-Mar) BA uses a 747 as load factor is quite a bit higher- been like that for at least a couple of years now.

AUH and MCT have 777 all year round while DXB in summer has 3 x 777 flights and in winter 2 x 777 and 1 x 747.

BA never sub routes on an ad hoc basis, its simply too complex to arrange 2 additional crews in BAH to operate the shuttle and return sectors. They did change in Dec/Jan from 777 to 747, but its been a 777 for the entire summer season. It is reverting to 747 in Oct for the whole winter schedule not in Dec (which covered the last few NNCW 747s being in Cardiff). Next summer is probably not fully planned as yet so expect some changes.

DXB in summer has 3 x 777 flights and in winter 2 x 777 and 1 x 747.
DXB in summer only has 2 x 777 and 1 x 767 1 x 777 and 1 x 747 in winter.

Hmmm...my flights in June 07 (accompanied by two other FTers), September 07, January 08, February 08, and forthcoming December 08 have been/will be 747s. Didn't realise they dropped the 747 in July and August.

They didnt last year, but the BAH has been 777 for the entire summer schedule this year.
