MAN-JFK ceases 26th October

Oh well...

Commensurate with the decision to start LGW-JFK in October, the long standing Manchester to New York JFK service will be sacrificed to create a slot at JFK and free up the 767 for LHR which in turn frees up a 777 for LGW.

Apologies for the split threads as I found out each piece of news from different places. Feel free to merge if you like mods.

I guess we all kind of saw this coming, cue more "London Airways" comments.

Great shame.

Followed, of course, by lots of "but the South is important and that's where the yield is" comments.

But that London Airways cap does fit rather well.

Its a great shame indeed. Now I have to waste several more hours when I want to go to New York rather than my 30 min drive to MAN.

I know there are other direct services available from MAN but none as good as CW on BA.

Sorry, did I see a BA LGW-JFK operated by B777?

So that's what the hype's all about!

Cheers,

This has been on the cards for ages.

I'd say next for the can, BKK-SYD and SIN-SYD.

I look forward to the day when we can choose from a LHR-JFK every 7 minutes from 0700 to 2300.

Timetables not yet updated - you still get LGW-MAN-JFK if you try any date after October

Ah - now it's working (must have taken time to roll out to early 2009)

Business as usual here in the North. Well, no BA business anymore, as it's all Y, but I am sure AF and LH won't mind the extra revenue.

Can't happen while the JSA still exists.

Well this is a real shame. Took this flight last April and it was great - our first CW experience - so very enjoyable and memorable; and service was excellent - better than our return from Toronto.

Flight was busy in CW and appeared to be pretty full down back; and from what a colleague told me when he travelled it last October in Y, it was busy then too.

BIG shame.

I wonder if they get all the hard done by crap on the AF forum?
" I live in xyz 2 hrs away from CDG" and AF don't fly to NYC
" I live in XTZ 2.5 hrs away from CDG" and AF don't fly to IAD

AF is now Paris airlines......

I really enjoyed the service from the MAN crew on the MAN-JFK flight. Bummer and feel sorry for the crew.

Wonder if MAN will now get a new long-haul route?
