coloured "beads" above an exit sign

Does anyone know what these are? I noticed them on a BA flight the other week, but they never seemed to come on. Then a recent UA flight within the US different colours came on whenever the cabin crew phones "pinged"

Just curious more than anything !

I think they tell you who is calling on the phone - or is it where you should pick up?

Ok on Boeing it is the following -

Pink - One high low chime (Cabin crew to Cabin crew phone call)
Pink - two high low chimes (Flight Deck)
Orange (Toilet call bell)
Blue (Passenger call bell)

On the widebody depending on which side blue light illuminates shows you which aisle the call bell is on.
Some airlines vary this and it is different on Airbus. The above is BA boeing.
Best way to remember it (How I was taught)....and very non P.C so cover your eyes...

Pink (Gay crew)
Orange (wee colour)
Blue ( B for bas*ards)

I did warn you!!

yes you can sleep easy, unless you're on an Airbus and you see the amber light flashing accompanied by a triple high chime.... that means there is smoke detected in one of the lavs!

Can't say I've ever noticed any coloured beads apart from the ones that a hippy who was sitting next to me once was wearing.
