Sorry to those who are travelling but tonight is not a good evening to be flying.

Well, there was a FTer on the last BA flight out of LCY this evening... everything was being cancelled around him, but they kept being assured their flight would go - and from the silence which has descended, it seems it has!

Well. Hmm. Freezing fog, massive delays, cancellations and strikes over pensions at Christmastime. Hmm. Where have I heard this before?

Oh yeah. Right.

having just got back from LCY (was on the cancelled 18.20 Glasgow flight) - I doubt the last flight actually left. Everything was closed down when I left about 18.00.

Situation At The Major London TMA Airfields
-------------------------------------------
.
Heathrow - Currently Operating Normally With A Landing Rate Of 42
Per Hour. Fog Is Forecast Later This Evening And, If Required, A
Reduced Rate Will Be Applied. Air Holding Less Than 15 Minutes.
.
Gatwick - Operating Under Low Visibility Conditions, Not Expected
To Improve This Evening. Landing Rate Approximately 18 Per Hour.
Outbound Delay 2 Hours. Air Holding 20 Minutes.
.
London City - The Airfield Is Open But Aircraft Unable To Land
Due To Visibility In The Region Of 500m. Aircraft Are Departing
Normally.
.
Southampton - The Airfield Is Open But Aircraft Unable To Land
Due To Visibility In The Region Of 250m . Aircraft Are Departing
Normally.
.
Luton And Stansted - Both Airfields Operating Normally But With
Fogforecast Anytime This Evening. Air Holding Less Than 10
Minutes.

Not sure I agree with "aircraft are departing normally"... if they can't land they won't be on the ground to depart in the first place!

Currently stuck in the F Lounge at LGW awaiting the flight to MAN - shows 2319 on the screen in the lounge but 0050 in the terminal...

I have to say that the staff, the champagne and the bacon rolls are all helping! Also an improvement on last year, when the flight got cancelled and I ended up taking a bus up north...

Oh well, its my own stupid fault for travelling Domestic I suppose!

Booked on the last MAN-LGW which was cancelled around lunchtime.

Rebooked onto the penultimate MAN-LHR (into 1F which was nice!) which then left around the same time as my original flight.

Lovely Aviance staff at check in manning the Club desk (first time I've seen that all year) and even in the lounge too.

Managed to leave my hand luggage at check in, thankfully I realised just before going through security and had to do the walk of shame back.

Delayed 30 minutes out of MAN, then had to wait for 15 minutes or so for a stand.

Had to wait an hour for any of the MAN bags to arrive on the carousel. Naturally mine was not included among them.

And my return is on the 7th January, a BAA strike day...

Grr!

They finally left about 1930, and arrived up here about 20:45... we wondered which senior BA manager was onboard that flight

With more FTers flying the same route today, I note there are already delays on it

I would be amazed if this went ahead.

I don't think the government would allow the closure of airports such as Heathrow.

I am sure there will be all sorts going on behind the scenes and magically the media will conjure it up as "talks have been successful with the Unions and all is well again"
