Does the search engine work???

What’s up with the search facility? Even entering very simple words like LHR, JFK, CW, SEATS etc come up with nothing at all.
Is it even working? Just seems to be a waste of time trying.

If you are referring to FT search, it's generally pants to say the least!

You may however want to post your technical problem to the forum linked below so the Webflyer team will take notice. Posting on the BA board will do little except garner sympathy from the usual BA board crew. :)

This has been discussed often before... as a quick search under "search engine working" shows:

Even this current thread is in there.

Some searches aren't allowed because words are too common, e.g. "JFK" or "the". It should tell you this though, rather than saying "Nothing found" as it appears to be doing.

"Seats" seem to work (as long as you wait 15 seconds between searches).

Keywords shorter than 4 characters are ignored.

Given that we all use the three-character IATA codes for airports, and two-character codes for airlines, this would seem to be a significant drawback for the FT search engine. Alas there doesn't seem to be a possibility of it being fixed immediately.

There is a thread on the tech issues forum where this has been raised; I'm sure an extra voice won't hurt ;)

Unfortunately searches with 4 or more characters are also often ignored and just return a blank page. Add more than one term to a search also generally returns a blank page.

Let's face it, FT search is pants and that's that! ;)

Thanks guys.
Yes you are right, if I search for say 'CW' it will come up with nothing but say I put in 'First CW flight', then it will.
To be honest, if this is the way the search works, we cant really jump down newbies throats every time they post a question that they would have not found in the search engine, unless they knew how to use it.

In this case, you're searching on "first flight" only...the CW part will be ignored.
