BA Barclaycard - Germany
Hi,
My partner and I will be moving from Australia to Netherlands, I would like to have a credit Card that can earn BA Miles if possible due to the BA Qantas alliance and the ease of using the points for Qantas or BA flights back to Australia.
I have noticed that the only BA Card in the Netherlands is a Dinners and I would rather not use a Dinners due to acceptance.
Germany has a BA Barclaycard which is of course in Euros and a Mastercard which would be great as you get 1 point per Euro spent.
So I guess my question is what would my chances be of getting the BA Germany Card living in the Netherlands are there any restrictions on that type of thing???
Thanks

It could even be difficult to get a CC in the Netherlands (probably except the bank-issued ones connected to a bank account with where your salary is paid into).
A possible exception may be if you already have a Barclaycard in Australia. They may be willing to consider your history there in that case.

First of all you are just moving to the Netherlands, which means you do not have any credit history there. As well you don't have any (credit) history in Germany, and e.g. no German bank account. So unless I am completely wrong about the German bank and credit card system, extremely unlikely I'd say, if only for the basic fact that the credit card company can't assess the risk they are taking, which is made even more complex as you do not live in the country.
But be aware that the card itself is nothing special. There are no useful insurances like rental car comprehensive cover. So I would get myself a better card.

The credit history is not that important as long as you can proof that you are a solvent customer. This is not such a big thing: just put some money on this new account (lets say 10k Euro or more) and apply for the CC. You can use this CC as a charge card without credit function which makes it even easier to apply (it is still a fully accepted MasterCard.)

Also remember that to have a BA AMEX you have to be a UK executive club member- and for the north american BA visa you have to be a north american BA executive club member.
I am guessing that it may be the same for european BA linked credit cards too?

Thanks for all the fantastic information everyone!!
Its great new to hear that I probably will be able to get the BA Germany card
does anyone know if the card is affiliated with any particular bank in Germany or will any German Bank account with any bank be enough (with some money in it) to be able to apply for the card.
Thanks again

But I absolutely agree with you that it is much easier if you are resident of the country (citizen is even better) and still have a credit history.
