Work as Head of ICT in the public sector. In my experience civil servants working for public sector bodies closer to the big guy (i.e. cabinet office or parliament) tend to have more humane working conditions than the rest, for example the health service.

Domestic/Europe in Y, but long-haul WT+ or J.

My Partner is an Acturary.

I work p/t for airline (to mainly get staff travel, but do enjoy the job)

So, his work takes him away a far bit and they do the ticketing. And when its holiday time I do the ticketing.

It would seem that I do not really need to disclose my occupation.

StewieMac rumbled me in post 14 of this thread

I think that's really important to remember!! The MOST IMPORTANT thing to do both at uni and for your career is something that you enjoy and find interesting. If you try to do a degree in something that bores you to death just because you think it will lead to a specific career, then you will probably become stuck! I did an LLB, because it interested me at the time -I intended to become a lawyer, but stumbled into business, and to be honest, you really don't need an economics/business degree to work in business. I travel a lot, and business travel effectively involves seeing airports and non-descript hotels/offices. However, I do enjoy my business travel and I try to make an effort to see the places to which I go.

Whatever you do, it really is important to enjoy it, otherwise you'll get to 30 and kick yourself.

I'm a consultant in the Broadcasting industry. My company sells CMS to Networks globally hence plenty of travel.

Just started a new project which will allow me to travel frequently to NYC and LA. I enjoy the travel, but Mrs Petrus is not as happy.

Glad that rocks are cheap in the states

FYI. I never finished UNI (to the horror of my highly academic family) but I seem to be doing well anyway

Subject: What are you PLAYING at???

Thelma - you have totally bloody shot yourself in the foot there, if you'll pardon my French. You MUST show any drafts to myself first. What the HELL are you doing mentioning offshoring as a morale issue??? As I explained in my Wall Street Journal article, BPO is totally not just win-win, but a five-way win-win-win-win-win. Atlanta doesn't give a stuff about the canteen - and in any case as the revamp was under the Special Projects remit we're not inviting complaints. As for hours, of course we work long hours - we're dedicated to winning! Suggest you start over.

Thanks to Moomba for directing me to this thread.

I was IT from 1979-2000 joining a large financial organisation in 1988 where I could use my skills to go and fix problems, install new systems, train, consult and do various other activities throughout the EMEA and US regions. Then when technology meant I could fix everything from my desk I stopped flying every week and went gold to blue in two years.

Now a Risk Compliance Inspector for the same organisation doing corporate security audits and security consultancy. Back travelling three weeks in four.

Married to an SK Service Manager so lots of staff discount leisure travel at weekends between our homes in UK and Norway.

Academic in a university in NE England. I run a small research unit whose work is focussed on trying to understand and prevent landslides, especially in less developed countries (e.g. trying to stop people in Kashmir being killed by landslides resulting from the earthquake in 2005).

Travel (c. 60 flights per year) is mostly to landslide-prone countries, especially in Asia (Nepal, Pakistan, Taiwan, Bhutan, China etc). Sadly university rules state that it has to be down the back. I think there should be an elite club for those of us who have reached Gold without ever buying a seat in J or F.

IT Manager for a UK utility company - we only trade in the UK, so although I have plenty of opportunity to travel on business it is mostly by train (with an occasional domestic flight to London or Glasgow if the price and timeings are right) - plus one training course in Dublin last year but flew Ryanair

95%+ of my miles (and all my TPs) come from leisure travel, and hope to hit Gold for the first time later this month thanks to some AA KUP trips.

I produce TV commercials...and try and film abroad as much as possible. And we nearly always need fully -flexible tickets as everything changes at the last minute....
