Worst terminal area in LHR?
After walking through the far end of T1 (G25 etc..) today I reckoned that it must be the most depressing part of LHR at the moment. It's gloomy, the whole area is really worn and there's the joy of the extra security check when departing. All in all a real armpit.
Anyone have a suggestion for a worse part? Roll on T5

The dungeon that is the T2 check in area. I am 6ft 5 and feel like I am going to crack my head on the ceiling at any moment. As soon as they flatten T2 and the Queen's building the better.
Too right, roll on T5.

The T1 Irish gates 81-89. Structure made from huckbolted single-skin corrugated aluminium alloy panels bent to an approximately oval cross-section..
I call it The Cowshed. Because it's the same materials you build one out of.

Cowshed? Couldn't have put it better myself.
Nick Grimshaw obviously took his inspiration from a Junkers fuselage but took the analogy way too far. Badly lit, and to make matters worse the potential to exploit excellent views and natural daylighting was thrown aside in order to fulfill this folly.

sign me up for the Irish gates at T1 - one loves the way that the loos aren't quite plugged into the walls properly, so as you walk past there's the hint of whiff of....eurgh.
And, being of the same school as Grimshaw, one will defend him to the end, but ... were you thinking Nick!?
