Question about tier points with Cathay

I am due to fly the following shortly: NRT-TPE-HKG-BKK with Cathay (first two flights in first, third in J).

The NRT-TPE-HKG flight is the same number CX451 and plane. I have, however, booked two separate itineraries to save money (NRT-TPE and TPE-BKK via HKG).

How will the tier points work for the NRT-TPE-HKG flight. Will I get two sets of 60 automatically or, since I will probably through-check my bags, will they only give me one as it is the same flight number?

Anyone have any experience of this?

Hi, if you have two separate tickets, you should get two sets of points, in theory. Just to jig the system a little, you should move your seat rather than sit in the same one for the second flight. That way you get two boarding cards as well...

Thanks spotwelder. Presumably I should ensure I am given two separate boarding passes for the NRT-TPE and TPE-HKG legs (with different seats!) when checking in at NRT? I am assuming that checking in my luggage all the way to BKK will not pose a problem.

Through bags should be fine and yes, you should go for the two boarding passes. This used to be enough to fool the system. The best way used to be to split codeshare flights so the first one would be the actual operator and the second sector would be the codeshare or vice versa. Not sure if you have that option on the particular CX flights you are taking.

QF are getting hot on through trip sector splitting for different coupons but same ticket. However, I am sure that you will be fine. You have paid a bit more departure tax and fees than you need, so why not get the miles and tier points?

The moving seats is only a precautionary move, just to force different boarding cards out of the system. Say something like you like the view on the left on the way into A and the view on the right on the way into B.
