OT - Waterworld in photos
http://www.users.waitrose.com/~nick777/wts_small.htm
Without being in danger of going wayyy OT I thought the above link gives some interesting shots of that familiar place I drive past on the A4 on when LHR-bound. An interesting shot here almost worthy of a caption competition! http://www.users.waitrose.com/~nick777/WTS13.jpg I'll go for: 'Planespotters break into Waterside Centre' |

What is the "Eagle's Nest" referred to one photo?
Eddington's office? Shouldn't that be called the Snake Pit or something similarly sinister and scary? |
Nice little perk they get at WallyWorld having an in-house Waitrose.
I understand they can send an order down and it will be ready for pick it up at the end of the day. Probably better than messing about with ocado.com and not getting what you wanted. |

I think you have to watch out with online shopping. Supermarkets are very adept at using it to get rid of almost-out-of-date produce from their shelves.

Ah, nice to see some pictures of the old place. I had the (dubious) pleasure of working out of waterworld for three months as part of the Facilities Management team while people were moving in to the building. Before going into IT full time, I used to work for the Facilities company that won the move-management contract for waterworld (FMS), who I think still do the job (although it's been about 7-8 years since I left there to move back to sunny Scotland, so who knows). I have the sad distinction to having written just about every staff member's name (at the time of initial occupation at least) on the original CAD plans and asset tagged every bloody piece of furniture into the asset tracking database. Twas a lovely place at the time (although I may be biased, as it wasnt fully occupied by the time I left, and out temp office was just round the corner from the restaurant - ah, how I miss the lunches :).
Brings back lots of memories. Thankfully I left just before they started making us wear the same "uniform" as the rest of the BA FM team - i.e. a green suit and tie - mmm mmm mmm - just lovely. |

The Waterworld HQ is a fantastic place.
The concept originally devised for SAS by Niels Torp impressed BA so much that they commissioned his practice to design their Waterside HQ. Its still regarded as an important benchmark workplace and since it opening it has inspired Toyota UK, Pfizer and the Royal Bank of Scotland in shaping their recent corporate HQs. But like the CW seat, the original is still regarded as the best. Not only does it have its own branch of Waitrose but there is also a hair and beauty salon and specialist hairbrush concession. ;) |
Looks like a fantastic place to work... but it beggars one question- ... do ALL those people do???
I would love to see a BA org chart with associated staff figures... |
