BAEC-NA. Lost ticket. Reissue? Then recredit?
Hmmm. I dicey situation. I gave a ticket away as a present before the new rules came into effect. It was for CX in J class to asia.
That 'friend' seems to be getting closer to an ex-friend now. I've asked for the ticket back several times to which my requests have been ignored. My question.. can I report to BA that I've lost this ticket... and would they reissue a new one for me for a fee of course.. and then can I recredit it back to my account after a few months... Any ideas would help. I know I won't get the same value of miles back but anything is better than nothing right now. |
If the ticket is in that persons name I think you are screwed, if you report it lost you'll get a new one in that persons name, useless to you...

You haven't lost the ticket though. You got the ticket for someone else. Your no longer wanting him to have it is a different issue and not BAs problem. If anything, I could see you having problems if you have alleged that a ticket has gone missing and the person in whose name it is, turns up to use it Dave |
There are exceptions, but once you've "given" someone something, normally they own it outright.

What I'm thinking of doing is calling BA to say that the ticket is lost. Then after the new ticket has been issued in his name, and sent to me, the account holder, I shall hold it for a while.. then call BA to cancel the booking.. then returning this ticket for recrediting telling BA that the person has changed his mind. Would that work?

I think the new rules allow you to change dates on pre-July 1st PARTNER AWARD tickets. However, you cannot redeposit partner award tickets even pre-July 1st issue. For tickets issued after July 1st, you cannot even change dates on PARTNER award tickets. |

I think that if anything, you could find yourself with problems. What happens when the person turns up at the airport with the ticket which he legitimately has to find out that you have made claim that the ticket was lost? Dave |
Hmm. I think half of you don't exactly know what to do either.
I'll just try to winch the ticket back from my friend. Try to be nice, eh...? The ticket reads end of Jan but as he wanted to travel later, I will say that the ticket needs to be reissued first. Once I have it in my hot little hands, I won't be giving it back! So if the original ticket issued pre-July 03, can it be recredited back to my account? |

I don't believe that it can. I believe that even pre July, partner awards were non refundable Dave |
I had been able to redeposit partner awards pre-July. I don't know about the policy now.

Only date changes are permitted within the one year (from the date of issue) validity of the ticket. You may be able to get it back from him but you won't be able to do a thing with it unless you know someone that you like with the exact same name as printed on the ticket. If you do happen to get the ticket back from him, at least tell the guy that he's not getting it back so he does not show up at the Cathay counter on the day of departure and create a real mess for everyone involved.
