Same here, that's why we asked for a downgrade when at LHR an upg for me was not possible. We had absolute no influence in the ticketing process. I'd rather fly in the cargo hold than me sitting in C/F and her in Y.

So it wasn't possible for you both to book in Ce or both in Y. If so fair enough http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif some more cynical than myself may see it as a way of trying to blag an upgrade

A bit of a daft question http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif

but say a Prem was in CW (though to get Prem I doubt they'd ever think of flying back there or up there) and space was available for them up front would they be op-upped.

There is mention from Gold and Silvers on their upgarde ratio but what about Prems?

Can I throw in here FWIW that there is nothing that Ground and Cabin Crew hate more than "I'm in CW (or what ever( and He/She/My Child/Our children/ their tame Sea Lion are in the back - Can you do anything?"

"Well you can always swap with them if you like!"

I'm sorry to say this, but whether it is intended to look like an upgrade scam it looks like one, and it really does not wash. Very often we may not have catering so we could no even if there is space. If for whatever reason we are moving people about (and it does not happen much) I look for Exec Club first. That usually gives me the numbers that I'm looking for.

Along the lines of travelling in separate cabins....a very long time ago I used to work for an airline and was travelling on a high priority staff ticket on BA LHR-MIA (having just had some airline business meetings in London).....whilst my darling fiance (at the time) had her discounted Y ticket.

Now, at the time I was new to the airline business and, being a horrendously ethical Scots beancounter, was paranoid about following the rules for staff travel, so there we were, all decked out and dressed smartly, me in my blue blazer etc.

On the flight over from MIA, we were both handed J boarding passes (which was nice), as the flight was quite empty.

However, on the way back, the flight was chocka, so I got a standby boarding pass and my darling got something in the back of cattle class.

Anyway, got to the gate and there were loads of rather jaded looking BA staff sitting forlornly looking like they were standing by to get to Miami for the 10th day running.....so I had little hope and was preparing SWMBO for travelling alone.

Anyway, just before boarding I am called up and the gate agent said something along the lines of "I think you'll be happy with this seat sir" and gave me a seat in row 2....super, a nice seat in F.

Here is where to this day I am still not sure if I did the right thing....when I got on board and waved goodbye to the boss as she went back to row thiry something, I found that the F cabin was only half full and the seat next to me was empty.

Following the rules per the staff travel manual I had just recently been given, I let her sit in the back the whole 10 hour flight and did not say a word to the cabin crew.....as you can imagine, this went down with her like a lead balloon.

The way I looked at it, I did not want any F pax having any clue that I was not a fellow full fare F passenger, so I was totally low key about the whole thing, and was certainly not going to ask to bring my fiance up front with me, as that would have been a definite clue to the fellow pax.

Pucci my darling, put me out of my misery, tell me if I did the right thing ? !

Last year on a LHR-AMS my partner and I missed our flight because it was slightly delayed, and then the lounge forgot to call it when it was ready for boarding. (The only person who remembered had gone on a break. I was able to point out that it hadn't been called because it hadn't been crossed off their handwritten list. They wouldn't admit it to me, but I know the system.)

The next flight was absolutely full, so we were standing by. The gate agent muttered something about only having one Club seat left and handed us one CE BP with my name on and one for the back for my partner. So we boarded, swapped BPs in front of the crew and trekked off in opposite directions (it as a 757).

During the flight I got a number of very courteous comments from the crew and some very big smiles. The "girls" obviously approved! (Not that the back is particularly difficult to bear on a 45 minute hop.)

Later in the year we were on a MIA-LHR when my partner was booked in WT+ because WT was full in the necessary class by the time she decided to come on the trip. While having a quick goodnight snog at door 2 on the way in, the (a? relief?) captain walked past and started taking the piss. We explained, and he became very apologetic about the fact that this flight was full, too - otherwise, he said, he would have sorted something out. I think he meant it. Very sweet.

I dont quite understand what is the evil in asking to sit together. We were happy with the upgrade I received at TXL as well as the downgrade we requested at LHR.

I just wanted to report my experience that non-op upgrades are possible with BA, so it never hurts to ask in the rare case when being booked in different cabins.

Do you really think couples are booking different cabins just to have an excuse to ask for an upgrade? How silly would that be, given the fact that most of the times the Club ticket holder has to downgrade when no upgrade is possible. Flying Y while paying C for one most of the times, doesnt sound a too clever scam.

I was recently returning from a trip in C and came back on LH through FRA and DUS, where I was (surprise-)meeting my wife, who got there on a BA Miles ticket in Y. When we flew back, I checked in my wife on BA and asked whether they had space for me and showed my C ticket. They said "no problem" - the flight was half empty - but I would need to get an endorsement on the LH tix. As the departure on LH was approaching, I said, don't worry, I'll meet her in LHR in an hour and a half, to which he replied, that if I got my tix endorsed, she would be upgraded to CE, and, if not, not.

I got the endorsement, and we both flew Club. By the way, that was the first up****e I ever got with BA...

Congratulations, Tom! Wishing you much joy - and, eventually, sleep.

Just flew ARN-LHR and saw that 2 Sally Army officers were in an otherwise empty CE. Delighted as I was to see a couple of such tireless Christian soldiers enjoying more than the All-Day Deli, I couldn't help wondering whether the Salvation Army regularly flies its brass around in the pointy end or that the check-in agent was aiming to redeem a checkered past? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Thx for the kind words folks...that's what a community is all about, huh ? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

As for Cayman, the best compliment I have heard about our resort is that it is even nicer than it looks on the website, but you can take a look at www.thereef.com.ky and see for yourself http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

For the wee ones, the great thing is never having to wear more than one layer of clothing !
