Boy who photographed a 'burning meteor' was actually snapping Concorde
Anyone seen or got a link to this picture?

Well, that and the fact that it's a fireball!
|
And the fact that SSC doesn't look like that when she's in the cruise or even when she's got her reheat on.

There is no way that is Concorde.
Concorde doesn't burn up. If that orange ball was the jet engines, why did the flames just stop and not carry on in the wake of concorde. |
From article above:
"But the latest in a long line of explanations comes from aircraft enthusiast Mike Stradling, who claims 15-year-old Jonathan Burnett actually took a picture of supersonic Concorde and not a galactic space rock. Mr Stradling, from Brackla, near Bridgend, said Concorde regularly flew over South Wales on its flight path to and from the United States. He said the flames and long smoke trail were from the jet's engines hitting full power." Love it. No wonder the interior often smells of JetA1... Mr Stradling = aircraft enthusiast, I = The Pontiff! Has the man seen either the picture or the plane? |
You know what occurs to my daft daffy-duck mentality?
"The boy stood on the Burning Deck..." Now, that would be fun, let's see what we can all make up! (I cannot for reasons of decency and respect repeat the one I heard in the galley on Monday!) |

Read the comments at the bottom: "Up until last year I lived in Cardiff, just up the road from Pencoed. I have seen this before on several occasions when Concorde has flown over." Colin, UK "st a theory, but it does look very similar to what happens when an F1-11 vents fuel which is then ignited by it's afterburner. Just a thought!" Chris Roussel, Great Britain It definately was Concorde! its a reflection of the sun on the contrails at a specifici angle. |

Also it would have been of interest to know the time the shot was taken so you could tally it with an outbound / inbound Concorde, he said he was skateboarding so it was after 3.30pm or he is a skiving pikey http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif [This message has been edited by fbgdavidson (edited 10-08-2003).] [This message has been edited by fbgdavidson (edited 10-08-2003).] |
I'm with "Sophie" on this one...
"I think it's a terrible photo - if only he'd aimed more to the left he'd have gotten a unique picture of the dragon itself! " Sophie, UK |
