What happened to BA2 on 5th Oct

BA Website shows the bird in Shannon...

What happened?

Shuttle-Bored Oct 5, 2003 2:27 pm

Was wondering the same thing myself - friend is meant to be onboard and I promised to look out for 002 going over Chelsea.

Rang BA, and got transferred from the auto operator to a real human being (!), and was told that 002 will take off from JFK @ 21:30 and land at LHR @ 07:45 tomorrow morning (6th Oct). No reason was available...

It's a shame for the flagship of the BA fleet to go out on a series of operational issues like this.

A 5.5 hour concorde flight?

Just landed on the 178 from JFK and noticed before I left that BA2 was delayed until 2130.

I asked and was told the air con had failed and therefore the plane was U/S. It was expected to be back in the UK at 7am.

Needless to say, there were a few very peed off passengers who had to go on the 178 and my upgrade to WT+ was cancelled to allow for some of the upset passengers.

The flight time for 178 was only 5 hours 29 mins tonight so it only took 2 hours extra on our blunty.

FYI, the failed aircraft was G-BOAC

A good firend was on his 'flight of a lifetime' on BA 2 yesterday. He is not going to be a happy camper.

well chances are he will be compensated with enough miles for a round trip ticket in F. Not much compensation for missing a trip on concorde if your stuck on BA178 in WT+ - the only thing i dont understand is that BAA are reporting the flight as JFK via Shannon

If there was an air-conditioning problem it is possible that it returned to London at reduced altitude, and probably reduced speed, resulting in reduced range and a fuel stop in Shannon.

Saw the beautiful bird at 7am this morning as I was coming back from the gym. What a great way to start the day.

Aparently he got a full refund and a free flight home NCW.

Interesting that it was the air-con. On the previous day's flight, the (what was considered the) air-con was leaking slightly in row 26 for the start of the flight to the dismay of the passenger sat in 26A. They ended up having to release the oxygen masks for that seat and they remained down for the entire flight.
