What would BA silver get me?

I currently have 570 BA points and need 600 for silver. With the new BA points/miles earning rules, I don't think that it's worth it for me to try to make silver. Please let me know if I'm missing something.

I am AA gold and will be AA gold next year. That means I can use the J check-in and get elite seating in coach.

I have a Qantas Club membership that runs until 02/05. That gets me into AA, BA, US, and of course QF lounges.

Will BA silver get me anything over what I already get through AA gold and the Qantas Club?

Well, it really only counts if you do BA transatlantics. You'd get bonus miles on those.

Well, you would get access to all OW lounges when travelling with any OW carrier, so your lounge access would extend to include CX, AY et al. e.g. at the moment, if you were to take a flight with CX you would have no lounge access rights at T3 whereas as BA Silver you would get access to the AA lounge ( which your QF club card wouldnt )

Supposedly, your chance of getting an operational upgrade may be increased by being OW Sapphire rather than ruby.

I fail to see why not, as T3 has a regular AC apart from the FL. Reciprocal benefits should apply. Is there an exclusion for international ACs?

Dave actually said "e.g. at the moment, if you were to take a flight with CX you would have no lounge access rights at T3 whereas as BA Silver you would get access to the AA lounge ( which your QF club card wouldnt )". That is correct. If you were a QF Club member with no OW status, you'd get access to the LHR T3 Admirals Club only if you were flying AA or BA (arguably in the case of the latter because BA no longer have their own lounge in T3 and are now using AA facilities, more's the pity). If you are flying CX, as a non-status QF Club member you get zilch.

I believe that there is more award seat availability as you progress up the tiers.

Thank you all for your replies. I think that I will not try to go for silver. Even though it's only 30 more points, I do not often fly the AA domestic fares that would qualify for points.
