G-BUSH
Who says Virgin have all the fun with their plane registrations? My BA A320 from BCN-LHR this morning had registration G-BUSH. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif It can't be a coincidence. Of course, on BA one can safely assume that the plane is named after the American president. On Virgin, I would think the same registration might have a different meaning. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

As much as I'd like to believe this was deliberate it is unfortunately a coincidence. This Airbus is one of 10 which BA aquired from Britsh Caledonian. G - is obvious the UK aircraft registration market. BUS - was to signify that they were Airbuses. And the last letter was in order of delivery: First was G - BUSA Second was G - BUSB G - BUSH was the 8th Airbus delivered to BCAL. |

G-BUSB was actually the first BR A320 and the first of 5 -100s (B-F). G-BUSG to G-BUSK were the 5 -200s. G-BUSA was a helicopter, an AS355 Ecureuil which is currently registered as G-ICSG. One of the more entertaining things about BA registrations was the G-BIKx series of 757s. They originally included G-BIKE, allocated to a/c serial number 22176. They began arriving at the time that Norman Tebbit (?) made his infamous remark that the then millions of unemployed should do what his father had done in the Great Depression, which was to get on his bike to go and look for work. 22176 quietly became G-BKRM. G-BIKE is worn by a light aircraft, a Piper Cherokee. Now ScottC will be suggesting that I decamp to airliners.net ... |

Yes, it was SEEA (Southeast European Airlines), during the years 1992-1995. SEEA, founded in 1992, was the first attempt at a private greek airline to compete with Olympic, when that was made legally possible. Virgin provided the pilots, SEEA provided the cabin crew. After SEEA's demise in 1995 Virgin took over the whole operation, till 2001 when it dropped the route.

Virgin may have fun with their regs., but BA's are on the whole much more intelligent (but that's hardly surprising!).
Examples: G-ZZZ* - BA's first 777s (the Z looks like a 7) G-VII* - More 777s (VII being Roman for 7) G-YMM* - More 777s (YMM being Year and MM Roman for 2000, the year of delivery).
