Concorde awards available now (Sept. 19th 1:50pm EST)

I just booked BA4 online on October 3rd. Oct. 3rd, 4th, 10th, and 16th were available JFK-LHR.

dhacker Sep 19, 2003 1:04 pm

I just changed my reservation to BA002 on 10/4. That way, I can fly into NYC the night before, see Springsteen at Shea stadium and fly the Concorde (Seat 24A) the next day. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif

jspear Sep 19, 2003 3:34 pm

I see no availability on Galileo. Was this through BA or QF? You made the reservations inline??

mymiles2go Sep 19, 2003 3:49 pm

Those same dates JFK-LHR are still available btw... as of 2:46PM PST.

This is via britishairways.com once you login you can check through the Award Availability finder thing.

There were no LHR-JFK flights available.

jspear Sep 19, 2003 5:03 pm

I got it! I got it! Two seats on BA4 Oct. 3rd. Just confirmed using QF miles. Thank you all.

jspear, so now we expect a Trip Report. Having done it 12 months ago (LHR/JFK), it is a life changing experience. Particularly now for you, being in the last month....make sure you score anything and everything that you can take off the flight (or BA Concorde Room)

Let's not have any more of this tacky plundering.

Just enjoy the ride and be happy you got a chance to go supersonic before Concorde retires.

I just checked again on 9/20/03 at 9:15am EST and the one-way, JFK to LHR are still available for miles...

f4free Sep 20, 2003 11:30 pm

Just in case somebody would be willing to take me along trading BA miles for KLM miles or Swiss miles ... PLEASE let me know. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

A trip report is the very least I can offer for all the help I received here.

My itin., should anyone else be along for the ride:

03OCT03 BA004 JFK LHR 1300 2200 23A 23B
04OCT03 BA882 LHR KBP 1350 1920 03D 03E

Sorry, LondonElite, I should have been more specific with my choice of words.

I meant to say whatever is normally available for paxs to take (Concorde in flight magazines, etc). That is what I took when I flew The Bird last year...anything that the Concorde Lounge staff and Concorde Crew allowed me to take (because I checked with them first).

Well, it's fun and it's a thrill, but not quite life changing!

It is? The only thing that changed after I flew Concorde was that I had flown Concorde.

Congrats- yesterday afternoon, there were at least 7 seats left on that flight (according to QF); tonight, 0. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I have enough miles to fly it again, and a friend of mine is looking to join me if I go. So, if anyone has a spare 100K BA miles for a o/w ticket, please drop me an e-mail. Thanks!

jspear - please enlighten me - I have QF miles - and checked for BA inventory - but when I called QF asking for the appopriate flight was told that the Concord fights no longer even show up to Qantas agents in first inventory - if this is true how did you book the Concord with QF miles?

Thanks!

I don't mean to sound like the shoplifting police for BA but, as you can tell, I got pretty ticked off a few months ago when someone boasted about the great Concorde robbery...pillows, blankets, s&p shakers, emergency cards, etc etc etc.

It's tacky and ruins the experience for others.

QF, didn't mean to jump on you. fbddavidson brought up the name of the plunderer, so if you want to do a search, you'll see what I mean!

It wasn't easy. I probably spoke with six different reps. on four different calls over the course of a few days. Apparently all CSRs received a memo after the retirement announcement that BA would no longer be releasing Concorde seats to QF for award bookings. And by all accounts that was the case until very recently. As others on this board can attest, Z class availability has been showing up here and there for Concorde. My advice is to call and immediately ask for a supervisor, tell her you have a friend at BA who has told you that there is still some Z space available and would you please check for availability on BA2, 4 whatever on such-and-such a date.

What a bummer. Called Qantas - seats were available for 25/9 BA2. By the time this slow res-agent had it processed, it was gone.

I'll just keep trying. Whish me luck!

alexwuk Sep 22, 2003 4:37 am

I've got to ask the obvious question here:

Why are BA selling award seats when they show R0 AC EC in a CRS?

I checked; and BA would sell me seats for 100000 miles on more days than a travel agent (or indeed BA Reservations themselves) would for money in R Class.

I think it is noble that BA offer as much Z inventory as R inventory - that rewards frequent flyers (or those who are very big fans of Inside Flyer magazine). I think it goes too far when award availability is greater than paid.

I for one know someone who would have bought an A ticket on BA 1 next week, had there been seats. I think it's odd of BA not to sell seats to willing, paying when they are obviously available.

Regards,
Alex

BA is still showing availability for BA0002 on 3 and 4 October and BA0004 in 3 October.

Booked mine for 16 October.

Are you looking in that German site with access to Galileo? I can see a lot of sense in BA not wanting to make SSC seats openly available in any market other than UK and US - possibly Oz, too, given the success some people have had with availability from QF FF.

And R0 simply means that BA won't confirm the seat automatically in that market. They will probably still take a WL request and then decide manually whether to confirm it.

I think that's correct. Once they close the waitlist for R, you would see RC. That will then pretty much be the final call for that flight, given the R class ticket rules.

IIRC, souvenir items for purchase on board (eg the paperweight at GBP 49) are cheaper than going to the BA on-line shopping site after the flight (GBP 65). Shame I didn't buy the thing on board. At least I now have it - even if BA did double charge me. I hope AMEX can sort that one out.

(edited to tidy up the quote)

- I called QF saturday afternoon, which was when I was told that BA002 on 10/10 was showing Z7.

- I called an hour later, and was told that it wasn't even showing the flight operating on that day.

- I called again an hour or two later, and it was showing again. Unfortunately, I went through the whole booking process before I ran into that "relatives-only" thing and scrapped the whole thing.

(hence, my search for BA miles for my friend)

Yeah, there's one seat on Oct. 3. Unforunately (or luckily, really) I am in Hawaii then and can't work it then ...)

The 25th of September - BA2 - just opened up!!! 4 seats or more available !!!

Now 3 - I got one !!!

Thank you all!!!

I am really really sorry I just posted this. The qantas agent screwed up and booked the wrong day. Just got the e-mail. Everything is gone now, probably because I posted this here. I am so frustrated. I am screaming. I can't believe this.

Have an exam tomorrow. Have to go offline now. If anybody can help, thank you.

Edited to add the angel in ZRH got it confirmed. I'm happy again. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

i am looking now on both BA and QF and can't find anything ... I have dreamt since I was young of flying concorde.. can anyone who might have any information on what I can do to fly - (other than pay 4000 pounds which I don't have!).. I have the points easily with QF and can probably convince a mate to part with his BA points ..
am flexible about travel.. any day works for me...
maybe I have missed the boat / bird..... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

andybrownaus,

currently only the following show availability for JFK-LHR:

Sep 27 (R9)
Sep 29 (A only - a little weird)

Ofcourse if you're in Aus you still need to get to JFK by morning of Sep 27/9 - and still need to buy an airfare to JFK on short notice....

Anyway if interested - I can only recommend the process I followed ( http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum39/HTML/002179.html ). Others have had mixed results with this. You can only try.

I understand you completely - hence my excitement at having secured a 125k seat on BA002 a few days ago.
