CHanging names on already issued e-ticket
 

I have 4 seats on the YYZ-JFK BA97 on Oct 2nd. These were issued as non-changeable/non-endorseable etc.

Sadly, one of the passengers cannot now go and I would like to substitute another person (any volunteers!!!!).

The tickets have already been bought and paid for but do the rules allow a change of name before the 1st segment has been flown, or do I have to go and beg a favour and wave my gold card around (nicely of course!)

For Economy, the rules state that name changes are not permitted at any time.

Basically the tickets are valid only for the person ticketed.

As the tickets are non refundable, and non reroutable, they are also non transferable.

Blame it on the person that's not going. That ticket is basically $$ out the window.

I have always wondered why tickets are non transferable especially in the age of e-tickets. Can someone explain?

This leads to my second question. As the ticket can not be changed in any way, if you were planning to travel with someone who doesn't turn up can you hypothetically "demand" the seat next to you is empty as you have paid for it?

And finally are airlines T&C's legal. Has anyone sued them in order to get them changed?

Simple. You get what you pay for. Buy a cheap non-refundable, non-changeable ticket and you cant refund it or change it. Buy a fully flexible, fully refundable ticket and you can...

OK maybe it wasn't an option in this case (specials only), but you get the idea...

Small beer, but all taxes & PSC's are refundable. Check too if the pax's inability to travel is covered by yours or their insurance, otherwise it's a dead loss.

I remember last year I think that some airlines were going to relax the non-transferability rule. From memory, BD and BA were mentioned. Anyone else know about this?

Given how special the flight is - rather than try to change the ticket, might someone be prepared to change their name for this purpose?

I only booked the trip to give my father a suprise as he has never been on it and was involved in the development. However, just last night his wife got sick and now he thinks he won't be able to go. So I may actually have 2 seats free.

If this is the case I will let this board know first as it was here I found out about tje trip anyway.

Which you should have bought TRAVEL INSURANCE in the first place when you purchased the ticket. That way, you would have been protected as it is an illness that prevented your father from travelling.

my father is 77 and getting travel insurance in the UK for someone over 65 is bad news. The premiums are high and the cover is often crap.

As luck would have it, he can now go as he has arranged some medical cover for his wife.

For those of us under 65 we take cheap travel insurance as a given, for those over its no fun at all.

Nope can't change it... I had this problem on my honeymoon when I'd booked our tickets for my wife with my surname.. although her passport/ID's still had her maiden name. We had to take along the marriage license to prove it was her.
