Negative mileage balance

I will have a 40,000 negative balance on BA next month. Anyone got any experience on what happens if you owe the airline miles?

Yes - so now it makes no sense to collect BA points, especially in light of their new mileage requiremnts (Phew---300% more to fly for free)

1) The 300% is BS, that's only on SOME routes. Average is 15% more.

2) Your reasoning that now you've got away with it you won't earn anything to replenish the account is IMHO immoral and probably considered fraud, also it will spoil the flexibility of the program for those of us that ARE honest.

3) How did you manage to get the negative balance? Are you a long time Gold card holder?

For the record, LH let their SEN members go into a negative balance...

CT you are really getting frustrated by this stream. (I wonder why?)

IMHO its based on the fact you don't know how to go into negative balances. Your first question was HOW

I smell moral indignation tied to jealousy

It is no less immoral to run with a negative balance that to be saving for years for a free ticket only to have its "cost" increase by over 2 times. I don't care if some routes only went up 15%. The route I travel went up over 200%

Jealousy or not, there are probably more BA EC auditors on this site than there are "steves" in Ann Arbor, MI... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I agree with this. Very unfair of all the airlines who have recently done it.

[Edited to add. Does it say in the T&C's you can't have a negative balance. BA.COM seems to be down at the mo or i would have had a look.]

True. No shortage of easily-pulled chains in this forum. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I don't have any reason to question SteveinA2's honesty as it pertains to his anecdote of BA allowing him to incur a temporary negative balance to claim an award (although 40,000 miles in the red is not trivial), but I do think most of us agree that his honesty is suspect if he has no intention of giving enough of his business to BA in the immediate future to put his EC account back in the black.
