Saw him up close and personal on ACK one year* and his detail even then was fairly impressive. His son (the more recent president) only gets 10years of protection, Those from Clinton going backwards, get it for life. I think Nixon is the only president to have signed off on his protection* claiming he didn't need it.

Up too and including Clinton, so that would include Bush senior, they get secret service protection for life. Starting with George W Bush they only get 10 years worth of protection.
