They were on the 7:25 flight to Rome as I sat next to him on the bus.

Was his companion a pretty blonde?

She was sat in Euro traveller while he was up in club europe.

He didn't eat in F to CPT last year either - he was sat behind me and the food was awful. I told him it was about time that Height Cuisine moved up to the nose of the plane too

He's a good bloke. Before he shot to "fame", he was in that Castaways social experiment series on BBC1, marooned on a Hebridean island for 6/12 months (I can't remember which). Either way, I happened to be passing his island on a yacht a few months after it all started, and we achored in the bay and came ashore with a bottle of scotch for them. The first one I bumped into was Ben Fogle, who was most appreciative!

His book "Teatime Islands" is also a very worthwhile read if you're into remote places...

Sorry to come over as a bit dense but did I miss some hidden meaning between the "waiting for sunrise.... nice thing to do" bit in this quote? I know I've been away from Blighty for a long time now and I do try and keep up but......

Jeez, do I feel even dense r now. How could I overlook our sunrisegirl? And here I was visualizing this Portillo chap and his "companion" staring wistfully from the lounge over the quiet runways waiting for the bloody sun to come up..... OK, I'll leave now and get back to work.

No newspeak at all I'm afraid - they simply waited for the sun to rise, commented briefly on it, then left for gate A10 to Rome it seems.

I'm back there again tomorrow, so will be sure to update it if he's also there, and it's just his preferred breakfast joint.
