Personally, I would have no problem if the Royal Family actually paid for CE travel. I would expect BA to give priority to upgrades to the Royal Family rather than any other 'celebrity'. The same with high ranking politicians - I don't have a problem with them at all flying in CE/CW, whether paid or upgraded.

At GVA the airbridge had a door on the right immediately as you left the plane, with stairs down the tarmac. Where a GVA airport car and a Swiss policeman were waiting. I assume for her, and to escort rather than arrest.

I was actually in CE down to Nice a few years ago and Sarah Ferguson and the two princesses were in the first rows of club.
I walked by them getting off and as we headed for the long passport queue at NCE,they were ushered straight ahead by special services presumably to a waiting car.

I don't agree that high-ranking politicans should be upgraded simply because of who they are. They are - for necessary security reasons - too isolated from normal people as it is, and it would do them no harm to see from time to time how normal people live.

A tired looking Alan Hansen in the 'fast track' security lane at T5 last tuesday. Would have struck up a chat had I not been busy shaking my head at this malfunctioning 'perk' BA continues to offer. Much enjoying his contributions in MOTD - nice lad for an ex-Liverpool player.

I agree that if BA had a need to upgrade anyone, most of the so-called "celebrities" that feature on the Celebs thread should be a very long way down the list. But it is equally satisfying to see an HRH in economy, hopefully without any DYKWIA strops being thrown along the way.

How many FTers who can afford to fly F/J elect to fly Y because it reflects better for their image or the image of their company and "it would do them no harm to see from time to time how normal people live".

Do FTers have double standards? Loads of threads here on how best to secure and upgrade, other threads on the excitement when we get them, yet we begrudge Celebs in the same position.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Barry Manilow on my flight back from LAX this week. Not good at celeb spotting, convinced Barry was Rod Stewart for 2 minutes, the side profile gave it away

Not really a celeb, but former Minister of Defence Liam Fox was in the Munich Galleries Lounge on Sunday 04/12, and on the BA957 to LHR..... and more interestingly with his 'friend'...
