Lounge access - quick question

My folks are flying BA from LGW in September. They are AA Platinum, but have no status in BA. The flights are AA award flights.

Am I right in thinking that they can use the AA lounge at LGW (due to their Plat status) or the BA lounge (due to their OW Sapphire status)? Or will they be politely declined access at the BA door?

TIA

PS: Kudos to Dave Noble for tipping me off with the idea of signing them up for the AA Plat challenge. It is as a direct result of that tip that they are now enjoying the first of their two free return flights using the AA award miles they have earned!

They will be able to access the (very nice) Terraces lounge at LGW North. The AA lounge is in South Terminal so they wouldn't be able to access it even if they wanted to.

When's AA moving to the North Terminal?

They will be unable to use an AA lounge since it is closing soon ( this month iirc ) when AA moves its services across to the North Terminal. As AA Platinum ( OW Sapphire ) they will be entitled access to the far superior BA Terraces lounge.

The lack-of-challenge is great isn't it.

To be fair, US domestic flyers are the pulsing lifeblood of AA, and earning 10,000 Q-points flying domestically with AA is a bit more of an upheaval than for us international members. A look around the AA forum shows some ridiculous 7,8,9 segment routings on a quest for Platinum. Perhaps international members should have a slighter higher requirement (it's only going to take me one flight -- not even on AA metal!).

It's interesting to note that AA have stopped auto-comping UA members and started diverting them to the challenges instead -- a good way of ensuring some true loyalty (unlike Star UK Status Match!). The challenges must make some kind of business sense for them or they would have been stopped.

Can't imagine BA ever doing anything like this :)
