B.A. Premier Card and how many Gold Holders?

Hi There,
A good friend of mine in London was curious to know how many other Gold holders there are approximately? He holds Gold and was also wondering what one has to do or how many miles to get Premier Dark Blue or Black card?
Thanks on advance http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Premier is by invitation only. Don't know about how many golds.

Is it a true statement that you will only receive this special invitation if one is either famous or a CEO of a large corporation?
As to Gold are there hundreds of thousands of card holders? Do you think this will go down due to 9/11 or will they extend?

Thanks,

Dear Fox Trot,

The gold/prem issue has been discussed in many threads although the exact amount of cards out there is not out in the open try doing a search on PREMIER using the search function.

I think 50.000 is about 10 times too low...

Thank you very much the links really helped..I also agree that the color of the card should not matter..It was just that my friend has had Gold on B.A. , is vice-president of a fortune 500 company and was wondering about that one invite hae has never gotten..His curiosty not mine...
He is a little sour as he flys Concorde often and says they do all sorts of special things for him http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Must be the difference in the price tag I guess... My friend is British so that might explain to a few people about the service needing to be top notch..Love the Brits..I just know they like excellent service and will open their mouths about it if they are unhappy.. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I lived there for several year in Mayfair and Chelsea so I base on my opinions on having lived there http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The big misconception about Prem's is that you have to be a VIP. The people that get to be Prem's also have a big impact on a company's travel. A lot of Prem's don't even travel themselves, but they decide what carrier their company uses. hope this helps!

Scott, flying through LHR, it may seem like a great number of Golds exist, but in reality, there are not that many out there. In one large European country that I know of there are 1200, in another there are 1500, in another there are just 200 (and remember these guys have really low thresholds). I believe that I read that HKG has the greatest density with about 2500 in the territory. In short, 50,000 seems reasonable give or less a few thousand.

Comparing to the US would be interesting as it would seem that the top three carriers each have about 30-40,000 in their top tiers and maybe 100-200,000 each in their mid tiers. Each of these carriers carries about 3-4 times as many passengers per year as does BA, although their programmes are mile rather than fare based. Furthermore, their levels are generally the same throughout the World while outside the US and UK BA severely deiscounts the amount of flying to get to Silver and Gold (Hell, one connecting "A" fare through London from certain countries can net someone Gold)

And I thought the card was as common as muck.... I wonder if they are going to honor the HKG promo comping to BA gold?

Kind of makes me feel special http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif
