According to the BA website £4225 + £227 = £5280.69 for flights to the US

Trying to book a flight from London to the US

Outbound in CW and return in WT

Outbound price shows as 4225
Return as 227 (actually the bar at the top shows "lowest price £177", but I can't find that anywhere in the list of flights!)
When I go to the book page - it shows a total of £5280.69

Now what do I do?

Tried doing it while logged in and out, different browsers, same problem. I'm in the UK using the UK website

And what happens if you try pricing the trip as two one-ways?

The booking page is the correct price. It often happens that split cabin trips do not price up properly on the individual flight page.

About £9500 for the outbound alone!

Thanks, I didn't know that - BA IT at its finest

Since this is for travel to/from/within the U.S., you are free to file a complaint -- with the appropriate screenshots -- with the U.S. Department of Transportation, if you wish. U.S. DOT regulations require that the first price quote provided by an airline be accurate. ;)

If BA were to receive enough DOT complaints about this, they might actually fix the problem someday.

Hah. That gave me a good belly laugh.

I suppose it depends on how much in DOT fines BA is willing to bear before it fixes things. The latest DOT fine against BA that I can find was for over $1 million USD for refund issues:

https://www.aerotime.aero/articles/u...umer-practices

("US DOT fines British Airways $1.1 million for deceptive consumer practices")

Yeh the DOT rules are designed to stop airlines from bait and switch or adding mandatory fees in at a later point. An IT error on a niche ticket type probs isn’t going to merit a fine, notwithstanding that I can’t see that the DOT has fined any major airline for price advertising infringement in the last 10-15 years.

I just used ITA matrix to price this out and, yes, the booking page fare seems to be the corrrect one. BA is showing the wrong fares on the flight/cabin selection pages

Look harder:

("DOT Fines British Airways for Violating Price Advertising, International Baggage Compensation Rules")

https://www.transportation.gov/brief...vertising-rule

("DOT Fines American Airlines for Violating Price Advertising Rule")

("DOT Fines Finnair for Violating Price Advertising Rules")

Thanks for highlighting. First part of the sentence remains relevant though. Apologies for taking this OT - glad to see the OP has found the correct price.

Price your trip up on another airline? You're worried about the ~£800 website glitch, but in reality your problem is, £5k is very steep for 1 way CW, it's implying a £10k return fare (if you did CW both ways) which is as expensive as it gets.

Sadly I’ve had this situation quite a few times- where the price shown when selecting cabin is much less than the total price on the final screen.

As frustrating as it is, I chalk it up to BA’s ...... IT :-(
