Upgrade J to F worth it?

€781 (euros) MIA LHR (A380). On arrival at LHR flying on to DUB 4 hours later so would have CCR access if upgrading.

Thoughts please.

Hi,

That is maybe a tad high but not too bad ( previous posts have suggested a much higher price)
I do like the space on F A380 and it is a long enough flight to enjoy dinner then get some sleep. And seats better than the A380 old style CW seats ( although the upper deck A380 CW seats are quite good with the side storage bins)
Not sure about Miami if you get Flagship Dining in F
CCR at Heathrow would be nice for a few hours

I would probably take it ( assuming the money is not that important)

Regards

TBS

Surprised the quote is in Euros. I like the A380 in F but value is personal. If I had wanted to travel in F I would have booked it originally and would now probably travel in business.

640 roughly for an overnighter back to LHR would be too much for me however its very subjective. What does that mean to you? Maybe if it was the other way I'd consider it. I always think of these types of things if I were laying 640 cash on my dining room table ask yourself, is it really worth it? Of course if cost is no issue then go for it.

Assuming your still Gold as per your profile then GF is fine. Its all down to what you think really. CW on the A380 is good for an overnight sleep and there's no real benefits for F at the Miami end compared to the CCR.

Just my 2c worth

It is in Euros because the ticket originates and ends in DUB. It was very expensive €€€€ to book in F at the time of booking.

OK, understand. If you are wavering I would go for F.

If you need the extra 70 TP, then go for it.

If youve not done F before, and that money is an amount you can afford to spend on a treat, it seems quite a good deal to me. I would place a higher value on CCR over GF currently, as the food in GF is currently the same as GC and its been very busy the last couple of times Ive been, so for four hours you should be able to get some good value out of the CCR.

I would say yes, particularly as you are upgrading from old CW to F.
You will also get access to FFD in MIA.
In the current market you won't find much cheaper than that for an upgrade to F on that route.

DOI, have previously paid close to $3k to AUP 4 of us CW to F ($699 x4) on that route.
I considered it worth it at the time and would do it again.

Clearly, if you don't consider it to be a disposable amount of money, don't!

My next two US trips in J this year have cost less than €781 (thank you “flash sales”) so i wouldn’t. But I’m tight, and like to get the best bargains. I’d spend that money whilst on the vacation not to change cabins.

Yes it's all about what the money is worth to you. If it's a business trip and the cost is deductible from swingeing UK taxes, it alters the calculation.

If it were my own tax paid income, I wouldn't.

I'd be pretty miserable about waiting 4 hours to then fly to Dublin and come straight back, though. CCR or not.

You seem to be a regular traveller, but one without a lot of F experience and one for whom cash is an issue.
If that is correct I would suggest you save your cash as you can have a lot of fun with that amount of money and instead book yourself an F reward using avios later when you have the points and can find the availability. Taxes in F aren't much more than those in J and the delta in avios isn't that great either.
[EDIT] Looking at your profile I probably got it wrong and you are just asking whether the price offered is reasonable, It probably is reasonable, but it is not a gift.

For me, no. I mostly travel on business, so really not fussed about CCR. It's always packed, too. I don't get the appeal, personally. I don't drink myself to excess either, so F offers no advantage over J.

I flew in F on the A380 to ORD in March and wasn't disappointed, but wasn't hugely impressed either. Felt like and old well-used bus seat from circa 1998, seat area was a bit dusty and grubby and I used the hot towel to give it a wipe down and the IFE is ancient and barely works. You get a slightly better meal, sure, but 700€ better? Absolutely not.

FYI I mostly travel J and that was my first time in F since 2018.

OP, as crazyhorse8534 points out, you would have access to FFD in Miami. Mind you, FFD opens at 1pm. If your departure time does allow, please try and treat yourself to 2 hours (perhaps more). Even if the food is not Michelin (it is presented beautifully) the service I had was so excellent. I was never rushed, and encouraged to take my time. Champagne and cocktails were flowing, as per my preference. They had no issue when I interrupted service, with proper notification, that I would be stepping out for 15 minutes before returning to. I have mentioned this STAR before in other posts, but Viv at MIA FFD, is just AMAZING! She is engaging and personable, knows everything about everything offered, and provided one of my most favorite travel experiences!

I think the F experience, sandwiched between two really good lounge experiences (personally never been in CCR), for the rate offered, is yes, do it! I hope your experience is all you want and then a bit more!
