No-notice devaluations of CX and JL on Avios 21 Sep

I don't see any English-language blog/X/FB posts on this. Reposting from Chinese-language sources. Immediately effective:

BAEC members are reminded that redemptions involving two or more BA partners (with or without BA flights included in the itinerary) price according to a special redemption chart:

Thatís multi carrier.

Single carrier partner redemptions were a pretty popular use of Avios in this part of the world. Not so much now.

That's correct. Where feasible, some multi-carrier redemptions might be more economical now. (I recognize that there are some itineraries where only all-CX or all-JL will be feasible.)

Is this the first time that BA is breaking out different prices for different carriers? A rather bigger deal than it appears if so.

It seems impossibly difficult to understand the pricing nowadays since the recent changes caused all kinds of illogical pricing discrepancies.

They did it for AA a while ago. Thereís so little availability these days that nobody notices.

I think CX did something like this around 2018/2019 - so it's not the first time a oneworld carrier has had different pricing.

This seems to be on top of a devaluation in July? Asian partners (CX, JL) devaluation when redeeming with Avios 28 Jul

I was comparing Avios redemptions on CX from HKG to Vietnam earlier this week between BA and QR and the new increases in Avios are now just absurd. Who in their right mind would redeem 30,000 Avios in business for a one way flight to Ho Chi Minh City? It now costs 3x the previous Economy redemption price to fly in business class within zone 2. With QR it is still only 16,500 Avios for the exact same flight. As for HKG - Japan/Korea (zone 3) it is still 22,000 Avios for a one way business class redemption - 10,500 fewer Avios than BA.

Yup. Although the 'original' amounts quoted above seem to be the pre-July ones (I paid 25,000 Avios for ICN-HKG in business on a ticket booked in Feb and flown in July this year). That compares to 20,000 in 2019.

OK. Not great. Nobody likes paying more Avios for their reward flights.

But given the high airfares within Asia, this "devaluation" will soon be forgotten since burning Avios intra-Asia will still be a sweetspot...

Earn and burn - existing balances are being devaled into Pesos/Weimar Reichsmarks.
- Then Avios will have to get the banks to issue them in multiples per £ to get anyone to want to convert into them
--- With flexible currencies no-one will want to convert into Avios unless they see the availability, and then convert in real time (and complain loudly when conversion doesn't happen in real time)
--- Or perpaps we get a new, rolled up currency like Gold Avios (1 Gold Avios = 100,000 Old Avios)
- Why do they even bother giving out Avios for flying?
--- The soft bribe you give to customers in agency is TP

They are currently benchmarked to the 'frozen chicken standard' via nectar.
