BA Silver - >600 TPs but missing Eligible Flights
Hi everyone,
I've been a BA Silver member for several years, but fear I am going to lose my status since I made the mistake of booking a few too many BA flights with Avios this year.
Am I correct that I will be downgraded to Bronze next year for having accrued ~700 TPs but only 3 out of the 4 eligible flights? And does anyone have anecdotal experience of their status being extended with enough TPs but not enough eligible flights?
I can live without lounge access for a year though it may sting a bit
.
Thanks in advance.

The chances are you will be downgraded to, um, Bronze. Sometimes they take pity on those with long membership years and give you a pass on one year. Depending on the exact date of expiry, maybe a quick trip to JER/NCL/GLA/EDI/BHD/ABZ would be of merit?

You might also want to consider how soon in the next year you might re-qualify for Silver (if that's your plan) as you will immediately become Silver again for the remainder of that membership year plus the whole of the next.
If you're going to hit Silver again fairly quickly then a short period of Bronze might be acceptable.
I am in a similar situation - likely to miss Silver by a few points - hope BA take pity but if not with current travel plans I would only drop down for about 6 weeks so not that bothered.

Hi all for the quick replies
unfortunately I am based on the west coast of the US and do not have any travel plans to the UK before the membership year ends in a few months time. I checked if US domestic flights could be sold via BA but it looks unlikely. Has anyone had experience of their status being renewed despite being short of the mark? (This happened during the pandemic but I believe they automatically extended statuses for everyone during that time period).

Yes some people definitely get renewed even if they don't quite meet the published rules, and it seems that this is more likely for those with some years at their current level. But there is no guarantee and no publicly published criteria for such exceptions.

Take advantage of tropical storm Lee and book last min a BOS to LHR which will likely then be cancelled. Then claim a refund and beg BA saying it robbed you of your opportunity.
Just to be clear this is terrible advice and might not even work, but people on FT have been known to go to such lengths no doubt.
Hope you find a more sensible way, perhaps one of the flights between the Caribbean islands.

Not sure where you are based, but saw Iberia and Ba have some one way flights out of Boston that go BOS-JFK-LHR. Fly hand baggage only on the BOS to NYC leg on an IB or BA coded flight and then offload yourself. Again a bit extreme, but can be done for approx 290 dollars or so.

If you have to spend hundreds of dollars to do this, it's not worth it. Just do the obvious and direct thing and call BA and ask politely (for those who object to the word "beg") for an exception.
