New Avios and tier points system ?

I know next month Avios earning becomes fare based. But what is happening with tier points earning is that changing? Like most of you the new system is a big disappointment.

Sorry to hear we're a disappointment. Bit harsh.

Nothing is changing with tier point earning for the moment. Meanwhile I'm seeing changes such that a booking generating 48K avios will get about 6k under the new system. Every day that passes I thank the good folks at IAG for simplifying the system based on my feedback.

Yep, I remember the very feedback form which asked:

In the future, which of the following systems would be easiest for you to understand and use?

A) Revenue based avos earning based on a highly complex breakdown of your ticket fees.

B) all of the above

Reminds me of a recent counsel consultation in my area about the introduction of a controlled parking zone.

Question was:

When would you like it to operate?
With no option of 'not at all' so it resulted in them saying 100% of residents where in favour of it operating at some point during the week 🤦‍♂️

Earn avios from credit card churning now...much easier example in Canada...visa card can easily generate 100000 from applying for a credit with a reasonable spend requirement

Its now simpler to earn even more Avios! Simply call your credit or debit card provider to allow them to authorise individual charges of over 10,000! Then navigate to the BA website, and after several riveting attempts to try to make the booking, simply purchase an appropriately expensive fully-flex ticket in First on your chosen route! Then watch as the Avios roll in to your account several days after your flight, subject to a 90-120 day followup to receive points for any segments which dont autocredit. This offer time limited until next devaluation and tickets non-transferable.

Yeah, a UK based airline providing enhanced earning opportunities in Canada is a brilliant piece of simplification by BA. Go Canada.

That sounds like a very dramatic reduction. I did a rough calculation and found that a booking that used to earn roughly 11k will earn roughly 8k under the new system.

As the OP's question has been answered and a 'further reading' link helpfully provided, we'll close this thread to avoid duplication.

'Post of the week award' must surely go to "Like most of you the new system is a big disappointment."
