BA61 to MLE no breakfast service.
Friends on the BA61 to MLE in Y (Maldives) yesterday(5th Sept 2023) got 1 drink circa 8pm after departing 6.48pm then meal at 9pm then nothing.. there was a female passenger who had to be restrained and handcuffed for duration of flight as she was screaming shouting and abusive.
crew unable to serve breakfast due to lack of rest.
will they have a case for some Avios goodwill gesture?

I would say the priority would be to send a supportive note to Customer Relations congratulating the crew for dealing with this unfortunate incident. All of them are carefully trained to deal with this situation, none of them would have aspired to be cabin crew with this sort of event being a feature. Hopefully your hotel in MLE was able to supply a good alternative meal.

It's best we don't go into the details, but it isn't exactly a 10 second operation for one member of staff, and once the cabin is secured again, the situation will need to be carefully monitored.

Ah - gotcha so it needs constant monitoring - like a watch and that takes up the available crew rest hours. I learned something new!

Not defending the awful actions, which must have been horrendous for the crew, but the 789 has only a max of 127 in Y. Even including the 39 in W cant believe a quick breakfast service couldnt be provided. What is breakfast I wonder on this route ? Hot or cold?

Well I am sorry if I speak out of tone but I have read it all on here now.
So a passenger had to be restrained which surely is the last resort for the Crew and it must have been serious, but the first question on here is are they entitled to compensation for the lack of breakfast to how does it impact rest to why cant they serve breakfast hot or cold.
Come on Ladies and Gents, give the Crew some slack and rest, yes the Crew get trained in restraint techniques but training school and the reality are two very different things
I am in no doubt this was very traumatic to Customers witnessing this but also to the Crew.
The Commander and the Inflight Manager will have made the absolutely 100% right decision to suspend breakfast in order to look after the Crew who dealt with this horrific situation and yes the Crew would be physically and mentally exhausted after such an incident.
Thank you CWS for such a pragmatic response.

Sadly it seems to be heading that way!
We were met by armed police last yr after somebody in the F cabin with us was verbally abusive to the CC and physically pushed a passenger in CW on the way back to LHR. 1/2 the F cabin had to give statements to the police.

Of course, the 'out of rest hours' might have been the decisive factor in suspending breakfast, but naively one might wonder if they could at least do a tea & coffee service.

I’m assuming that the other cabins would have received some sort of service but in the WT cabin at least 3 of the 5 cabin crew working in that cabin would have been involved plus the IFM.
