[National security] T5 Security a bit of a mess and FW security closed [resolved]

Seems to have happened in the last 15 minutes or so – everybody currently being channelled through the regular security channels. Painfully slow. But not much anyone can do about it so just need to grin and bear it 😊

At 12:30pm today North fast track was closed. South fast track was queued up to the door to the terminal and moving like treacle. We jumped into regular line and was through in 20 minutes.

Saw the massive queue to Fast Track South around 12.30, so went to Fast Track North. It turned out to be closed, so went back to South. Took me 35 minutes to go through.

First Wing Closed

Just a heads up for anyone travelling to LHR T5 today. Apparently was a security breach and First Wing and fast track north are closed.

Just connected through and it wasn’t busy but I think it just happened within the last 5 minutes so it may get busy! If you’re heading here today maybe allow a little extra time

I just did exactly the same. BA lady told me to go to North because it was quieter - it was closed that’s why!😂

FYI, the “document examination” referred to in Post #2 also applies to passengers connecting from domestic flights, as was my experience a couple of hours ago.

Sending passengers on a walking tour to the North end of the terminal is how they reduce congestion at the South end.

Is this why ID checks just became mandatory for domestics?

I suspect this is the reason:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66733660

A manhunt has been launched after a terror suspect escaped from HMP Wandsworth on Wednesday morning

He has links to Kingston and is "most likely" still in the London area..

Links to Kingston? They will also be searching in SW London then.

Hiding out in N/NW might be a good reverse psychology move then.
