Passport left on plane
Hi Everyone
My travelling companion on today's DUB-LHR flight thinks they left their passport on the plane. They're freaking out a little, as they didn't need it to enter the UK (but we did show it at the gate in DUB), so there was no point at LHR where they realised. It wasn't until they got home.
What exactly should I advise them to do in this situation? I assume it was either in the seat pocket or fell out of their pocket. If it was in a seat pocket, is it likely to have been found amongst everything? I noticed that the aircraft is now in Istanbul.
Thanks!
James

Yes I am afraid that unless it is AWOL for a very short duration, it needs to be replaced. I think Border Force at LHR - which is where it will probably end up - will cancel it if left overnight. Luckily replacement times are quite quick now, it could be replaced in a matter of a week or two.

This happened to my OH a few years back, but she spotted it was missing before heading home. We managed to find someone who spoke with the cleaning team (the aircraft was on its last rotation of the day) and they found it and returned it to her. It may have been handed in so worth checking that first.

1. Call Border Force at Heathrow (numbers on Google) to see if they've got it / have already cancelled it.
2. The 1-week fast track passport replacement service is running smoothly. I can see appointments available for as soon as tomorrow / Saturday. If you want London (NB the Passport Office is no longer at Victoria station) it's a week wait for the appointment. Friend will need a paper form, photos and counter-signatory. Paper form can be requested from post offices, not all have them and you usually need to ask.

I was once told by a Border Force officer that lost passports/ IDs often end up on the black market, where the buyer replaces the picture in order to prove to smaller firms that they have the right to work in the UK.
Advice was to cancel as soon as you reasonably believe you lost it.
