Passport Checks in Aircraft Cabin at Dublin?
Hi Everyone
Currently about to catch a BA flight from Dublin to LHR, and just arrived here with IB from Madrid. On arrival, officers boarded the plane and an announcement was made that everyone would have to show their passport or ID card before they can leave the plane.
Ive never seen this before, and wondered what the reason could be. After all, I had to use the e-Gates anyway.

Hi
Potentially officers having intelligence that there might be a person of interest on board?

At the top of a jet bridge after arriving at LHR from AMS, there were 6 UK Border Force agents checking passports. I guess they had intelligence that someone of interest had boarded the flight.

Originally I wasnt, but after my MAD-LHR flights were cancelled on both Monday and a Tuesday following the ATC mess, this is what they rebooked me on.

I've seen this format a number of times, both at LHR as well as MAD (coming off a South America long haul) and also in Boston once. However I have never seen the format described by the OP. The air bridge way would strike me as more efficient way of doing it as pax in the aircraft might not have their passports as close to hand as they would after de-planing, so there may be more faffing around, standing up, opening lockers etc.

It's potentially that they have spotted something last minute. Hence coming on the plane as opposed to doing it on the airbridge.
It is somewhat peculiar granted. May also have been something that has taken place in the terminal by an individual too.
That said you would think they could ask the Flight attendant where the person was sat if boarding the plane.

Its to stop potential asylum seekers destroying their travel documents between the aircraft door and passport control to obscure their nationality.

I ran into this sort of phalanx once boarding at LHR -- each passenger in the queue had their passport taken out of their hand, and the BA agent held it up open-faced to show the data page to a trio of plainclothes security types across the "aisle," one of whom would then, almost imperceptibly, shake his head no. Then we were handed our docs back and welcomed on board. Pretty obvious what was going on, but I'd never seen it before, nor since.
