How do I get my headphones to work in BA J?
I am not PM the people who are so kind and helpful as I am sure that they are being kind and helpful to people who have real problems with the aftermath of this ATC horror. My question is quite simple.
I find the headphones given out in J on BA as utter rubbish compared with American. I would happily use my Sony wh-1000xm2 which fit comfortably and give excellent sound quality. My problem is that the adaptor will not work on BA as the BA socket requires one pin to be fatter than the other and mine pins are both the same size. Is it possible to buy an adaptor that will work on BA flights and from where do I buy it?
Any suggestions will be gratefully received

The link below is for the adaptor I use which works for me, I'm no expert so happy to be corrected but you can order on amazon easily and I think they are compatible with your headset.

Do your headphones have a standard single 35mm pin and then you have a 2 pin adapter? If so, remove the adapter and plug straight in to the bigger of the two ports (top I believe) and your headphones should work just fine. The smaller pin on BA J is to power the house cancelling element on the headphones they provide I believe. But if your headphones are like mine (Bose QC45s) then the noise cancelling is powered by an internal battery. Works fine for me.
Hope that helps.

I suspect they were not plugged in all the way, Ive encountered no issue using (Bose with) a single jack plugged in to the IFE. If it happens again push and twist the jack slightly and see if that resolves the issue.

For technical reasons that I doubt are interesting, there is a connector ledge on the socket bands, that sometimes requires a bit of a push, but all BA's headphone sockets now have 3.5mm sockets, compatible with almost all wired headphone and I doubt that Ms. PG is waltzing around with a 6.35mm headphones. The adapter shown in the Amazon link obviously won't work on BA. If you only had one channel, it means that the jack connectors only made connection with the first band of the socket (and the wrong one in terms of left verus right); alternatively there can be a fault on the connectors, usually in the socket (some kid stuffing things in them) that weakens the connector band contact. This can be fixed by cleaning out the socket with a suitable pin (carefully) or by twisting the jack a few degrees round.
I think this is on a 787 but it's pretty much the same everywhere in CW. This shows my 3.5mm headphone jack, the other socket for Noise Reduction.

In other words if you have a standard 3.5mm headphone, 2 black bands, that's TRS and you do not need an adapter.

I use this nifty little devil from Tautronics with my Bose bluetooth headphones.... no annoying cables to get tangled in.
