Has free WiFi been removed from First?

I've got a friend on board BA67 to PHL as I write this, who emailed me about quite a saga of delay and ineptitude. He mentioned he had had to pay for WiFi in First, and said this in such a way he clearly believes this is now how it is. Is he right?

The free WiFi option should be there but unfortunately it often doesn't work and will say "reservation not found" even when you have entered your seat number and surname correctly.
In that case you should be able to get a refund OK but will have to pay at the time.

Worked fine for me a couple of weeks ago and I have no reason to believe it's been removed. Was the option for Free WiFi in First available on the menu or had it been removed?

Yes there's still free WiFi in First. The only time I've had an issue was when the WiFi didnt think there was First on the flight, so the option remained greyed out. Paid and was refunded within 48 hours, contacting .air direct often provides a quicker refund than via BA.

Is there a secret to getting refunds? Been a month now with no response from the email support.

I flew LHR - PHL in First last week and had no problems with the free wi-fi.

Twice in the last month I’ve had to pay after my reservation could not be “found”. I’m yet to get around to claiming the cost back.

The whole idea of this sort of thing is to make life easier, not to leave me with little jobs to do when I land.
