QR vs BA Dilemma

So, here is my quandary.

I have two CW tickets (777 currently) to Singapore (via Manchester) in November.

We usually fly with QR (Gold status expiring Dec) but have not for a few years due to high prices. Instead, a few years ago I started to collect Avios (I know, very late to the party) and have collected and used a number of companion vouchers.

My flights to SIN were on a companion voucher. It cost 132k Avios and 2,800 in fees.

However, there are now QR flights from Manchester to SIN on very similar schedules for 2400 each (4,800) which is very low compared to anything I have seen from MAN for a while. They are A350 so probably Qsuite.

I am unsure if these flights generate enough tier points to keep my Gold status (anyone know how I find out) but on the basis I think I can cancel the companion reward flight, should I do that and book with Qatar?

I also have one of the old companion vouchers expiring in January 24 and now only 30,000 Avios remaining, so freeing up the Avios could allow me to use that companion voucher for longer haul and leave me enough time to rebuild my Avios for the second companion voucher (expires 2025).

If an Avios conversion of 1p means my cost of the BA flights are 13200 + 2800 (=4120 vs 4800 with QR) would I be best off keeping my Avios and flying with the better airline and potentially keeping Gold or is my BA flight a good deal?

MAN to SIN via DOH would earn 140 for each leg ie 140x2 =280 each way ig in an appropriate business class fare code

Thanks - seems I need 270 so this would do it if fare class correct.

I can definitely cancel Companion / Reward flights (subject to the 35 fee) cant I?

I thought all of the QR business class fares were 140tp's (even the P class 'lite' fares).

That's QR's Qpoints, not BA tier points. The whole trip is 560.

Your calculation omits the value of Avios earned with the QR cash fare, so difference even less.

Of course, plus the AmEX bonus. On that basis, it probably makes commercial a iOS sense to fly with Qatar.

I can defo cancel the companion flights? I cannot find reference in the ticket t&c

Any Avios redemption can be cancelled for a charge of 35 per person.
