25 & 26 May : LHR Baggage and cancelled flights disruption

FO on BA632 just announced that due to an IT failure at T5, bags aren’t being loaded on the flight. Not sure if others are experiencing the same and if anyone in the know has an update on whether resolved or not.

I feel sorry for the crew who are going to have to deal with the wrath of what feels like half of the United States with onward connections to the islands on local carriers well before the early hours 634 arrival.

We might as well have an 'IT issue of the day' thread the way things are going at the moment.

BA374 has been stopped on the taxiway for the last hour so I’m guessing something untoward is going on with the load sheets.

I’m currently parked on the remote area on BA292 from Dulles. We took off over 4 hours late around 3am local Washington time. Now have been sitting on the plane for over an hour (landed 14:35 local). Packed A380 growing increasingly restless. Captain said systems have crashed and no planes are leaving the stands. They have to manually check every one in like it’s 1973 and not 2023.

Yes, HAL have confirmed there are problems with baggage handling both on FLY (which is BA) and the baggage system front end RMS (which is HAL and is out for tender for replacement). Tasks for the ground handlers have been blocked up on the system which means handlers can't get their work done in time for the scheduled departure. Some baggage is going to miss flights, particularly transfer baggage, and offload baggage seems to be impacted too (resources too stretched). Only about 30% of bags are getting to the carousel in 20 minutes, when the more recent ballpark figure is about 50 to 60% (and pre Pandemic was around 90%). Both T3 and T5 are affected.

Todays BA 322 (LHR-CDG) cancelled. No notifications.

Anyone know what’s happened. Standing in a queue waiting to find out what happens next. App is down. No email. Nada.

Onle discovered it was cancelled as I looked at the departure board on my way to check in.

Thanks. Just read that as well.

I assume if I can’t go tonight they will offer a hotel and fly tomorrow?

I assume a duty of care still stands?

Yes, or you can ask to go via AF / Iberia if there is space. More information on how to handle disruptions and hotels (hint: do it yourself) is here:

Huge queue for the customer service desk in the first lounge at T5 right now. My flight BA486 is cancelled, but I can’t rebook myself because in MMB the cancellation isn’t showing (though it is on the screen in the lounge).

What a start to the long weekend. Will flights be held at destination rather than come to LHR no space or gate ? Friend just boarding now in MAN and cabin crew said “it’s chaos at LHR”
